| District 7120 Annual Golf Tournament | |
The District golf tournament is being held on Sept. 14th at the Lima Country Club. We will be having a shotgun start at 1 PM on the Island Oaks course. The cost is the same as it has been for the past 7 years, $75. This includes the golf, cart and dinner. Once again a drawing will be held for any club that sends at least four golfers to the tournament for a Paul Harris recognition. The golfers don't just have to be Rotarians they can be family members or potential Rotarians. Each club is being asked to bring a door prize with a value of $25 or more. Remember that this door prize can be won by someone from anywhere within the District so please make sure it is something that they can use. If your club isn't sending a team please send along a door prize or send a check to me, made out to District 7120, and send to: Bill Redden PO Box 497 Lima, NY 14485 and I'll purchase a door prize for your club.
The money we raise will be used for District projects.
Please contact Bill Redden with any questions billredn@hotmail.com or call (585) 370 - 5570 |

President John's Journal | The annual Peter D. Formicola Sunshine Camp Invitational Golf Tournament (say that 10 times fast) was an amazing success. 152 golfers, 200 in attendance for dinner, an auction led by Joe Floreano and Lynn Sullivan that raised over $24,000, perfect weather, high spirits, and fellowship galore. Truly a great day for Rochester Rotary and a great day for all those we serve. Pete Sarratori and Wayne Wegman did a phenomenal job as Chairmen, and with their unbelievable support Tracey and Heather made these guys look really good! And the Golf Committee - maybe the best effort ever in selling sponsorships, getting donations, organizing the prizes and awards, and getting an outstanding group of volunteers to work hard and join in the fun. I think even Disney would have been impressed with this event! The initial tally is that we raised over $90,000. Here are the members of the 2012 Golf Tournament Committee.

One more thing. Since naming the tournament after Peter Formicola the kickoff for play has been a "Memorial Tee Shot" off the tee closest to the practice green (#6 I think). This year Don Alhart was selected to do the honors and using Peter's Driver, a ball from Peter's bag, and a tee that was hand decorated by a Sunshine Camper, Don hit a beautiful high, straight and long drive. The spirit and the symbolism inspired everyone in attendance to focus on why we do what we do for the Sunshine Campus. Well done Don!
============= I want to make a short plug for attending the upcoming meeting with Dr. Bolgen Vargas and his top administrators. Without question, results in the Rochester City Schools need to improve. Dr. Vargas is proving to be an effective and innovative leader, but he must depend on his key administrators to change outcomes in the classroom and the accountability of the District to perform better at all levels. The new top administrators that he will introduce to us are highly qualified professionals, highly paid, and we have the right to have high expectations. I plan to have plenty of time for questions and this could prove to be a very informative meeting. ============= As you know, the "receipt" for paying a fine this year is a Rotary 4-Way test coin. Sergio Esteban, President of LaBella Associates, was presented a coin last week and because it was in his pocket during a business meeting, it's going to wind up in Spain. It's a heartwarming story of how Rotary crosses oceans and cultures. Ask him to tell you about it . . . you'll love it! |

Guelph Rotary Club Tournament
On Wednesday, September 26, we will play our 11th annual golf tournament against the Guelph Rotary Club in Niagara Falls, Canada at the Niagara Parks Whirlpool Golf Course. Any Rotarian is welcome to play. The competition is a two person, better ball format (two Rochester Rotarians against two Guelph Rotarians with 100 % handicap.) Don't have a handicap?
We'll create one for you. Don't have a partner? This is the way to meet another Rochester Rotarian, and we'll match you up!
This is a fellowship event, not a fund raiser. It is followed by an adult beverage or two, a great dinner, and home by 8-8:30. The total cost is around $100.00, and the fellowship is great!! I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself, no matter how you play!
Interested, or interested in finding out more about it? Give me a call at 586-9228 or e-mail me at richardbayer01@aol.com

Foodlink - Festival of Food
The Rochester Rotary Club's first community service team project is to contribute to the success of Foodlink's Festival of Food - the largest food, beer and wine tasting event in Upstate New York. The event will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Rochester Public Market. We need 10 to 15 Rochester Rotarians to volunteer from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. Family, friends and guests also are welcome (minimum age is 8 years old / Foodlink prefers 16 and up). Volunteers can expect to sell and collect tickets at entrances, hand out bags containing plates and cups, or act as "runners" to keep 100 vendors stocked with food, beverages and ice. Please contact Bob Attardo at 987-2884 for more information and to volunteer.
