What's Going On Around District 7120? | |
District 7120 is on Facebook!
The District 7120 Facebook page provides information about the latest Rotary news and events and is a forum for all of our 69 clubs to talk with each other.
The District 7120 Facebook page needs a cover photo. All Rotarians are invited to post a photo of their club in action to the page by Friday, June 15. On Friday, June 29, the club whose photo has the most "Likes" will be the cover photo for the District 7120 Facebook page and win four tickets to Red Wings Rotary Night, on Saturday, August 18.

Back to the Future
| |
Join us this Tuesday, July 10th, for President John's Inaugural meeting at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. President John will be presenting plans, goals, and objectives for the start of Rochester Rotary's 2nd Century of Service.
We will also be joined by guest Matthew Skinner, the winner of this year's District 7120 Oratorical Contest. Matthew is a student a Red Jacket High School and wants to attend college for engineering.

President John's Journal

Happy 4th of July to all! As we celebrate America's birthday we are reminded that one of the things that makes this country great is our sense of community. This is especially true for Rotarians who celebrate our own community as members of the world's pre-eminent organization dedicated to service, and also as ones who have earned the right to celebrate the positive difference that we make in our community. I hope you have the chance to celebrate the holiday with family, food, parades, fireworks, and a huge sense of pride for all you do.
-------------
As most of you now know, the Rotary International President's theme this year is Peace Through Service. I am thrilled that Past President Bob Witmer has agreed to take on the demanding task of Chairing the Program Committee. He and the committee members are doing a phenomenal job of scheduling relevant, timely, and high impact programs that will be consistent with Peace Through Service. In many circumstances, war, conflict, crime and dispute originate due to a lack of something. Those "lacks" can include food, health, safety, education, opportunity, affection, and representation. The range of programs that are being planned range all the way from supporting a strong military to candidate debates to the Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence. It's going to be a great year for programs!
-------------
I hope you are planning to attend the first meeting of our new Rotary Year on July 10th at the Riverside Convention Center. I have titled the meeting Back to the Future to signal that we will be presenting plans, goals and objectives for Rochester Rotary's start to our 2nd Century of Service. A highlight you will not want to miss is the winning speech by the District 7120 Oratorical Contest winner Matthew Skinner. Matt will discuss how the 4-Way Test will assist him in choices and decisions that he will face in his chosen career path of Engineering. I guarantee that you will be duly impressed!

What's Happening at Camp
| |
The Sunshine Campus would like to thank Jim, Shirley, and Mike Isaac for donating both an air conditioning unit and their time to install it in our Ad Staff building.
We would also like to thank Postler and Jaeckle for installing plumbing in the new women's bathroom as well as Chuck Wolcott and his team at CWC for installing the walls, windows, and doors and Gene Caccamise and the Brick Layers Union Local #3 NY for installing the concrete and tile. The project is looking great and we cannot wait to see the finished bathroom! Thank you to everyone who has donated their time and effort! |

Red Wings Rotary Night
| |
Dear District 7120 Rotarians,
Once again this year we will be holding our annual Rochester Red Wings Rotary Night complete with the family picnic. This year's game will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 @ 7:05pm and will include post game fireworks.
As has been the practice in the past, $1.00 from each ticket will go to the District 7120 Literacy Committee to help promote literacy within Rotary District 7120. We will also be collecting new or gently used children's books for distribution to schools in need within Rotary District 7120. These books can be dropped off at the 50/50 table located in the main breezeway.
One thing that is new this year is that we are offering Rotary Clubs or individual Rotarians the opportunity to reach out to those less fortunate in the community by becoming a member of the Big Hitters Club. For $115 through the Big Hitters Club you can purchase a block of 20 tickets so that those less fortunate can come and enjoy a Red Wings Game. For some of these kids it may be the only way that they get that opportunity, and what a great way to get the name of Rotary out in the community.
The order form for tickets as well as the application for the Big Hitters Club are available on the Rotary District 7120 home page. If you have any questions or would like me to send you a form directly please feel free to contact me. Email: mwyse@rochester.rr.com or home phone: 315-524-7561.
Hope to see you at the game,
PDG Mark Wyse

Have you Proposed a Member Lately?
| |
Do you know a friend or business colleague who would benefit from being a member of the Rochester Rotary? Bring them to a luncheon and propose them for membership! It is simple; visit our website at www.rochesterrotary.org and download a proposal card under "Club Committees".
If you have any questions about membership, please contact Linda at the Rochester Rotary Office at 585-546-7435 x 201 or either committee co-chair, Mary Lewis Consler or Steve Abramson.
Your Membership Committee has set an ambitious new goal for the Centennial year of Rochester Rotary-50 new members! With your help, we can reach this goal, having brought in almost 40 new members last year!
The Committee is hard at work. Watch the new Membership Board each week at the Tuesday luncheon forum as the numbers grow and new members are introduced.
