Happy New Year and best wishes for a great 2012!
I hope you enjoy an exciting and profitable year. I want to remind you that it is my desire to help you achieve greater profitability by assisting you with one of the most challenging components to your business, PrintSmith. So, as the new year starts, now is the best time to implement all of PrintSmith's features such as bar code scanning, and Report Writer. Start off 2012 with the tools that you already have, and the wisdom to use them!
I assume all of you have backed up your Year-End data files after your final close out of 2011. Now would be an excellent time to see if you are backing up correctly and that you can do a proper RESTORE of your data files! See my "HOW-TO" on, "Restoring PrintSmith from a Backup", below.

HOW TO
Restoring PrintSmith from a Backup
Since you backed up your PrintSmith last week, now is a great time to see if the backup procedures you have in place really work! I have known some very diligent users to backup daily, but when they needed their backup, it didn't work. It is critical that you TEST your backup periodically! You don't want to find out it doesn't work when you need it most. Believe me...that happens.
STEP-BY-STEP
- On the master, make sure PrintSmith is not running on any of your systems and go to your existing PrintSmith folder at your Server.
- The PrintSmith folder will be located in your Applications (MAC) or Program Files (PC) folder
- Rename your Prices, Data, and Reports folders to: GOOD Prices; GOOD Data; and GOOD Reports.
- Now Copy and Paste the Prices, Data, and Reports folders from your backup copy into your existing PrintSmith folder.
- Start up PrintSmith. You should have all the data from the last time you backed up. (i.e. Friday 12/30/11).
- Your Pending Documents should be from 12/30/11, as well as your closeouts, and your AR balance. If they are, proceed to the step 8.
- If they aren't, call for support to see why your backups aren't working correctly.
- Now that you have verified your backup copy is working fine, close PrintSmith.
- Delete the Prices, Data, and Reports folders [copies are still in your backup, since we copied/pasted from there, in Step 4].
- Rename GOOD Prices, GOOD Data, GOOD Reports to Prices, Data, and Reports.
- Restart PrintSmth, verify your data. You are now ready and confident that you will know how to restore a backup, and that your backups are working well.
