Welcome to David Ashkenaz, Independent PrintSmith Consultant Newsletter

Dear Friends and PrintSmith Users,

Mac OSX Lion and PrintSmith is discussed here.

This issue will also deal with costing in the press room. Hourly rates and paper costs -- It is so important to have these rates correct when you estimate in PrintSmith.

Year end visit from me is also discussed below as well.

Speaking about year end, in my next issue I will discuss year end procedures in PrintSmith. As many of  you may know, there are just a few procedures to follow, but I will discuss them in my next issue.

Again, thanks for all your feedback and ideas on future issues. I really appreciate the nice things people are saying about my newsletters! Thanks!

The current version of PrintSmith is 8.1.15, upgrade today!

Best Regards,

PrintSmith and Mac OSX Lion
Apple, when they introduced Lion, did not put in Rosetta and as such, programs like PrintSmith will not work with Lion. There is NO fix for this and Mac users have to wait to upgrade to Lion until the next version of PrintSmith arrives.

The next version will be a browser based version and the only details that I have, is that it will look like and feel like the present PrintSmith. No changes are planned within the program, but being a browser based, will mean it will work on Lion!
Costing in the Press Room

Costing is a very much needed function within PrintSmith. Many of my visits spend 1 or 2 days putting proper costing into PrintSmith. How can you quote properly and or discount if you don't know what your true and accurate costs are?

In the press definitions, the true cost goes into your "labor rate" box. This is basically what it costs you to operate this press per hour. There are many ways to figure this rate, and you can call or email me for more details, but it should be the total cost of all of your over head associated with the press department. Items that this would include would be, press persons hourly rate, taxes, insurance, benefits, plus a portion of your rent/mortgage and also a portion of all of your over head. Most people will take the percentage of printing and divide that by their total overhead and then divide that by the number of hours the press is in use.

The other part of costing on the press is your stock costs. Making sure your stock costs are up to date will allow you to better estimate job and probably win more of them.

Year End Visit from Me!

I know alot of users wish to hire me for 1, 2 or even 3 days. I am presently filling up as many want to implement new features within PrintSmith for the beginning of the year.

Costing is a very much needed feature that I spend alot of time on. Also, implementing Report Writer/Schedule/Tracker are also many features users want to begin to use.

I am available 7 days a week for on sites. If you were thinking about having me out in the past and never did, now is the time to do it and to jump start PrintSmith for the year.

If you can win 1 or 2 more estimates a week from implementing costing into PrintSmith, then my visit would be paid for in no time at all! Please call for rates and so terms could be arranged if you need them!
