August 2011
Dear Friends and PrintSmith Users,

Due to  an overwhelming response and inquiry, this issue will once again deal with COSTING in the charge categories. There is specific ways to put costing in the press and the digital/copier categories, however, this issue will discuss the charge definitions.

For the presses and digital/copier areas, please contact me directly.

Remember, with 14+ years of PrintSmith experience as an Independent Consultant and over 20+ years in the printing industry with many of those years as an owner of a printing company, I can help you get you to maximize PrintSmith's value and use. PrintSmith WILL do what  you need it to do -- just call or email me for more details, plus my fee will be minimum as compared to what I can do for you! (Some users even say I do a better job than the seller of the software!)

I always look forward to your comments.

The latest version of PrintSmith as of today is 8.1.14.

Sincerely,

Charge Definition Window

This window shows that we are charging $25.00 for a set up and 0.025 per piece to fold 8.5x11 text 1/2. This is what we are charging the client, NOT our cost. I prefer this way of charging as opposed to "cost plus" as it gives you more lead way into charging the client exactly what you wish to charge, and also, as importantly, what the competition may be charging. We can not go just on cost plus to determine a selling price, competition plays a hugh role in what we ultimately sell our product for.

Also, if we use the price list method, we can have a decreasing scale on our price. We can go from 0.025 down to 0.01 per piece from quantities 1,000 to 50,000 for example.

REMEMBER though, this is the selling price!

The costing window
When you hit the COSTING button in the Charge Definition Window, your costing window opens up. Most of the time I will use Time and Materials as a way to cost. In this example we have an hourly rate of $45.00 (see previous emails on hourly rates or call me!), we have a set up time of 10 minutes and have a speed of 5,000 pieces an hour. Thus our COST to fold, would be a setup of $7.50 and a per piece rate of $ 0.009. We are obviously making money on this function.

This is the way that I would set up costing and this will then show up in the costing window of the invoice.

Why Use Bar Code Scanners?

Bar Code scanners are a vital part of PrintSmith! While they are great for the new modular TRACKER, they are primarily used to scan job tickets and see where each and every job is within you shop. This saves valuable time looking for jobs while your clients are on the phone.. Just go to your Pending Document window and see where each job is!

I sell the wireless scanners ($650.00 each) or the wired ones ($225.00 each). Both come programmed for PrintSmith and includes free delivery.

No PrintSmith system should be without them!

Buy them here using the PayPal link or the Credit Card Authorization link here:
