Dear Friends and PrintSmith Users, 

I have received many inquires on whether someone should upgrade and renew their maintenance with PrintSmith or let it elapse. I share no comments on this subject, other to say that it is a decision you should weigh and make your own conclusion.

  

I do and I will support any version of PrintSmith and my onsite visits include unlimited support (or you can purchase PUSH Support for any version), but only EFI/PrintSmith can upgrade you to the lastest verson.

   

Also, in the event you are running an older version of PrintSmith, and your hardware stops working (hard drive crashes),  you may not be able to find a computer that will work with your version of PrintSmith. If you are running OS9 you won't find a new Mac to run OS9 and thus you would have to upgrade your computer AND PrintSmith to run OSX. The same would be true if you are using the serial port dongle on a PC machine, most if not all new PC's do not have the serial ports and as such you would have to upgrade to a USB Dongle..

 

It is a business decision to upgrade, just like hiring and firing. Should you have any questions on which version I would support or weather to upgrade, please call me, as an Independent Consultant I will give you my direct answer!

Also, make sure you backup correctly and test your backups on a regular basis..

Copier "hidden" feature

Many more users have a lower price per copy depending on quantity. So you may charge $.07 for quantities up to 1,000 and then over 1,000 it may drop to $.05 or something similar. Well what do you do when a client orders 1 set of documents that equal 900 copies (10 sets of 90) and then another set of documents that equal 700 copies (10 sets of 70). If you price them out separately (which you should, so that you get 2 job tickets, they are really 2 different jobs), then you will be charging the client $.07 each ($112.00) and they won't have the benefit of the reduced price you offer had it been one larger manual 10 sets of 160 pages or $80.00.($.05 per copy).
  
Now you have the ability to do this with version 8.1.x. Read below for steps to accomplish this!
Charging the client for the lowest possible price on copiers
In order to accomplish the above, we will need to create a "multi part job". In the multi part job you would add 2 jobs and when you do add the job there is a box that appears that says "rate is "combined copies" for xxx". If you check this box then all of the copies will be totaled up in this multi part job to give the client your lowest rate as per your matrix that is in place. It's just that simple!

Alot of users want to use my services and schedule my visit around my scheduled time in or near their city. This way they can save some money on my expenses.
