Dear Friends and PrintSmith Users,

In this issue I will discuss how to create better looking estimates and invoices.

I will also discuss the COSTING feature in PrintSmith as well. I hope you enjoy!

Also, thanks for the feedback! With each issue, I will let you know what the most current version of PrintSmith is. As of now, version 8.1.8 is out and ready for download on PrintSmith's web site. It fixes some bugs and also it introduces the new Xpedx ordering feature. It allows you to check your local Xpedx for availability of stock that is in your stock picker. It also allows  you to place an order --- of course you stock picker needs to be populated with Xpedx papers!

Please be careful before installing 8.1.8. PLEASE make a complete backup prior to installing this and any PrintSmith upgrade!

Please send me your feedback, I want to make this newsletter interesting and informative!

Sincerely,

COSTING

Costing is now a very valuable tool within PrintSmith. If set  up and used properly, it tells the estimator what their actual costs are and how much, if any, they can discount or up charge to be competitive. Costing takes into count, the actual cost of the paper and  the press time needed for printing jobs. For copier/digital work, it takes into count the paper and the clicks or machine costs to produce the job. It also adds the labor needed at the appropriate rates.

For charges, it takes into count the cost of the labor and the time associated with each function.  So if you can fold 10,000 pieces per hour and your hourly rate is $15.00, the costing function would be set up to tell you it will cost you $30.00 to fold 20,000. This gives the estimator better information to use when one needs to be competitive.

As I go around the country and set up Costing for users, many times, we find that the cost to do an operation is actually higher than what is being charged!

Many times, the cost of my visit, is paid back in a few months due to the ability to change prices and make money in some areas of PrintSmith.

Costing is used independently or with the Tracker modular, your choice!
Estimates and Invoices
Are your estimates and Invoices look just like everyone else that use PrintSmith?

Why not make them interesting and informative. Have your graphics department create a nice looking estimate with all of your terms and conditions and also a nice looking invoice. Once they do this, save it and then place it into your SHARED IMAGES folder and manipulate the data from PrintSmith (name, date, etc.) to correspond with the image.

Make  your invoices and estimates stand out from everyone else! Please call or email me for additional details!
