In this issue I will talk about COSTING and also about the benefits of the bar code scanners that I sell.

In this economy, more of my clients are using the COSTING functions in PrintSmith. It usually takes me about a day to set it up.

 

WHAT I CAN DO:

I will set up your "true" costs for your stocks and your presses and copiers and then your costs for each of the charge definitions based upon the hourly rate and time it takes to run each operation.

 

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

When you go to the COSTING button on the job window, it will show you your ESTIMATED cost for the job. This will then give you important data to determine if you can/want to match another printers price.

 

Some users are now using the gross profit of each job as a basis for the sales rep commission. Although a higher percentage than it would normally be on "total sales", this way of paying commission is closely related to profitability of each job vs. creating a job just for the commission.

 

There are 2 uses for the bar code scanners.

 

1) Tracks each job through out your shop to keep your WIP up to date and it allows everyone who answers the phone to instantly know where a job is. No longer do you need to call back your clients! Also there is no need to walk around the shop looking for the job! Just scan the job ticket and then scan a location and it populates automatically in PrintSmith.

 

2) Used with the TRACKER modular to keep track of actual time/costs of each job vs. the estimated time/costs. Just scan the job ticket and scan "start/pause/stop/etc" and your done!

 

Bar code scanners can be used for EITHER of the above or together!
