Racine Montessori School
Racine Montessori School is part of a global community that guides the whole child toward a life-long love of learning. Children develop independence, confidence, moral responsibility, social purpose and inner peace through teacher guidance on self-directed work in a non-competitive atmosphere. Our school strives to offer strong academics and support in a setting of self-respect, respect for others and respect for our environment.

For RMS

Please keep in mind that RMS earns money toward its fundraising budget (which helps cover operating expenses) on items that would normally end up in the garbage:
Please keep these items coming in!  Every little bit matters.

The Easy Ones
Lest you forget, please keep RMS in mind in these other (mindless!) ways:
  • Earn rebates for RMS through Roundy's/Pick 'N Save's We Care program by designating us as your non-profit "beneficiary" when grocery shopping with your Advantage card.
  • Use your Red Card at Target and earn money through their Take Charge of Education program.
Montessori Spotlight

In addition to their peers, Montessori students develop strong ties to their teachers.  Teachers serve as role models, guides and loving supporters for the children in their development and growth.  Since teachers spend several consecutive years with each child, the nature of this relationship is deep and lasting.  Both parties are invested and the child learns the importance and value of enduring connections rather than seeing teachers and other adults only as temporary players in their lives.  The bond with the teacher provides security and helps enable the child to develop greater emotional intelligence along with intellectual skills.

Solar Panel Update!
We're well on our way and it's pretty exciting!  Folks from H&H Solar, who will be doing the installation, have met with our staff and we're getting ready for the installation to begin.  If all goes as planned, the work will begin on Monday, May 17, and should be complete before the end of the month.  We will be installing fans at the south end of each hallway of our school so the children will be able to see for themselves that when the sun shines, the fans will spin!   A sincere thank you to RMS parents Al and Renee Schmidt, for the loan of their scissor lift to be used during the installation!  They've come to our rescue several times this year and we really appreciate it! Take a walk back to the pole barn for a close-up view of the installation as it's happening.

A Few Spots Left

We have a few spots left for summer school in our primary and  elementary levels, but sign up soon.   Once the spaces are filled, your child's name will be placed on a waiting list.

Diane Kelly and Nicole Fuentes will be sharing the five weeks of Primary, assisted by Debbe Burdick.  Diane will teach on Mondays and Wednesdays and Nicole on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  They will rotate on Fridays.  Debbe will be assisting for the entire five weeks.  In the Elementary, Cara Lewis will teach the first two weeks (June 21 and June 28) and Melissa Winklebleck will teach the last three weeks  (July 12, July 19 and July 26).  There is no summer session during the week of July 5.

Our theme for the summer is "All About Wisconsin" and each day will be a new adventure!  Your child will learn about native bugs, plants, animals, Wisconsin facts and history, famous Wisconsinites, Wisconsin landmarks and much more!  There will be walking trips and field trips to interesting places throughout the summer.  The cost for summer sessions are $75 per week from 8:30 until 11:30. a.m.    Our Child Care Program will be available after the summer school sessions each day, from 11:30 until 5:00 p.m.  No deposit is required, but we do ask you to sign a contract to hold your child's space in class.  You will see the billing for summer school on your August statement. Join us for a very informational and exciting summer of learning all about our wonderful state of Wisconsin!

In the News...
A Great Gift!
A wonderful gift has been received from the grandmother of RMS students, Jake and Ben Reynolds.   Ellie Reynolds has presented the Treehouse classroom (Jake's Elementary classroom) with a George Washington Celebration Kit, which includes a binder of activities for students in grades first through fifth to help them understand and appreciate George Washington's remarkable accomplishments in establishing our nation.  Also included is a beautiful American flag and a Rembrandt Peale "Porthole Portrait of George Washington".   For over a hundred years, Washington's image graced classrooms across our nation.  Entire generations grew up familiar with his face and understanding his importance in the history of our country.  We are pleased that this portrait will now be hung at the north end of the main hallway of our school for all of our students to see.  Thank you, Mrs. Reynolds!

Thanks to Volunteers!
THANK YOU to some awesome volunteers around our school!  We appreciate the help of Robin Polzin, Chad Giles, Alida Trocke, Renee Schmidt, Brigitte Colston and Julie Zenner for their help in the drop off line; Brigitte Colston and Leann Pomaville for their help in the art room; and Sally Kennedy for her help with tutoring.  We appreciate your dedication and support!

Spring Plant Sale
The southwest corner of our school yard will be in bloom on Friday, May 21, as CJ's will deliver a truckload of beautiful hanging baskets and flats of annuals!  Plan to make your purchases right here at RMS for your Memorial Day planting!   Thanks to Cindy Westman, Darlene Feldpausch, Cathy Ulrich and Jennifer McClendon for volunteering to help us out with the sale during the day.

Family Fun Run & Walk
RACINEkids.com is hosting its First Annual Family Fun Run & Walk on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.

This is a great way to meet up with other RMS families, do something healthy with your kids and raise money for our school! RMS will receive a portion of any pledges you collect. Sign-up by May 14 and receive a free t-shirt & water bottle!
  • Return registration forms to the school office by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14.

RMS Policy Reminder
Snacks for Child Care
Our Child Care Program relies on donations of healthy treats to provide afternoon snacks for 50-60 children each day.  So if your child participates in CCP, please consider bringing a special snack for the children or contributing something (healthy!) to the CCP snack cupboard.  Especially as the year winds down, we could definitely use more snacks.  CCP staff (and the children!)  appreciate it!

This Week's Health Tip
Seasonal Allergies

"Ah-choo!" It's the third time this morning that your son has had a sneezing fit, and as you hand him another tissue you wonder if these cold-like symptoms - the sneezing, the congestion, and runny nose - have anything to do with the recent weather change. Well, if he gets similar symptoms at the same time every year, chances are you're right: He's probably got seasonal allergies.
