Participate in Family Fun Run/Walk on May 29
Sign up and collect pledges for this event being held on Saturday, May 29. Sponsored by RACINEkids.com. Join "Relay
For Life" Team on June 11 & 12
If you know anyone who has been affected by cancer (and who doesn't?), it's not too late to join RMS' Relay for Life team at
Case High School starting at 6:00 p.m. on June 11th and ending at
10:00 a.m. on June 12th. (You don't have to walk the entire time!)
It's the American
Cancer Society's signature fundraiser for the fight against cancer. Our team so far this year consists of Kim & Ricky Granger, Rita Lewis, Rachel Sura, Lisa Porter& Echo Tremeear-Matson. It's a fun time for a great cause. How can you go wrong? Join us!
Your Throwaways = $$ For RMS Please keep in mind that RMS earns money toward its fundraising budget (which helps cover operating expenses) on items that would normally end up in the garbage:
Please keep these items coming in! Every little bit matters. The Easy Ones
Lest you forget, please keep RMS in mind in these other (mindless!) ways: - Earn rebates for RMS through Roundy's/Pick 'N Save's We Care program by designating us as your non-profit "beneficiary" when grocery shopping with your Advantage card.
- Use your Red Card at Target and earn money through their Take Charge of Education program.

Montessori Spotlight
Here's an idea for summer adult reading: " Montessori Madness" by Trevor Eissler. Eissler is a Montessori parent and doesn't pretend to be trained in Montessori, except as a parent! He explains the benefits of a Montessori education in very simple terms, from a dad's point of view. He asks the readers to focus on what is important for our children to learn. Eissler compares Montessori schools to traditional education and imagines what the world would be like if all children could be exposed to this style of learning. |

The Solar Panels Are Coming! We are so excited! Our grants from Focus on Energy and WE Energies have been approved and, thanks to the enormous generosity of Dr. Clif and Gladys Peterson and Charles and Kathryn Heide who have gifted the remaining $45,000, we are ready to install the solar panels this month! This amazing project will be accomplished solely through this grant/gift money. (If you are interested in penning your own thank you note to the Petersons and/or Heides for their extreme generosity & support, send them to the school office and we will happily forward them for you!) Tomorrow, May 7, the folks at H&H Solar will have their structural engineer here to insure that the roof on the pole barn can support the weight of the panels and to finalize the calculations for the installation. At the end of the day on Friday, they'll meet with the teachers about the system and instruct them how to talk about it to the students. On May 17, construction will begin with the installation of the brackets for racking. Around the 19th, we will be in full construction mode and will involve the students as much as possible. We expect construction and installation to be complete around May 24. Isn't this exciting?
Summer School is Coming Please return your summer school forms as soon as possible since we are able to accept only 24 students at each level: Primary & Elementary! When those spaces are filled, your child's name will be placed on a waiting list.
Our theme is "All About Wisconsin" and students will learn about native bugs, plants, animals, facts, history, famous Wisconsinites, landmarks and much more!
The cost for each summer session, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., is $75 /week, beginning Monday, June 21 and running for five weeks, through July 30. There will be no summer session during the week of July 5. Our Child Care Program will be available ($4/hour for > 10 hours/week; $5/hour drop-in rate) after summer school each day from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (if needed).
No deposit is required, but we ask you to sign a contract to hold your child's space in class. Join us! It will be fun!

Great Alumni News Congratulations to former RMS student, Genevieve Vittori Boman for receiving the historic 2010 Salisbury Prize Award from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. These awards are given to the most meritorious seniors at the university who have completed all of their
requirements "faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished
attainment". The Salisbury Prize was established in 1871 by Stephen Salisbury II, a WPI founder and president of the Board of Trustees. We're so proud of Genevieve and clearly remember her as a hardworking, dedicated student at RMS in the years she was at our school, and we were thrilled to hear of this wonderful honor! Genevieve is the daughter of Dave and Linda Boman. Linda, as many of you know, is the reading specialist working with Katie Knight in the Rainforest Canopy classroom.

Please call the school office at 637.7892 by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent for any reason. We appreciate you making every effort to schedule appointments after school hours or during school breaks.
Out of respect for our teachers and students, please make sure your child/ren arrive at school between 8:20 - 8:40 a.m. Students arriving before 8:20 a.m. should make arrangements to stay at child care until it is time to go to class.

It's That Time of Year: Bike Safety
Bike riding is a great way to get exercise and fresh air and share time as a family. But before you and the kids rush out and start pedaling, there's an important factor that you need to consider - safety.
