Racine Montessori School
Racine Montessori School is part of a global community that guides the whole child toward a life-long love of learning. Children develop independence, confidence, moral responsibility, social purpose and inner peace through teacher guidance on self-directed work in a non-competitive atmosphere. Our school strives to offer strong academics and support in a setting of self-respect, respect for others and respect for our environment.

Join "Relay For Life" Team

If you know anyone who has been affected by cancer (and who doesn't?), it's not too late to join  RMS' Relay for Life team at Case High School starting at 6:00 p.m. on June 11th  and ending at 10:00 a.m. on June 12th. (You don't have to walk the entire time!)

It's the American Cancer Society's signature fundraiser for the fight against cancer. Our team so far this year consists of Kim & Ricky Granger, Rita Lewis, Rachel Sura, Lisa Porter& Echo Tremeear-Matson. It's a fun time for a great cause. How can you go wrong? Join us!

Your Throw-Aways =
$$ For RMS

Please keep in mind that RMS earns money toward its fund -raising budget (which helps pay operating expenses) on items that would normally end up in the garbage:
Please keep these items coming in!  Every little bit matters.

The Easy Ones
Lest you forget, please keep RMS in mind in these other (mindless!) ways:
  • Earn rebates for RMS through Roundy's/Pick 'N Save's We Care program by designating us as your non-profit "beneficiary" when grocery shopping with your Advantage card.
  • Use your Red Card at Target and earn money through their Take Charge of Education program.

Still Thinking About Summer School?

Please return your summer school forms as soon as possible (deadline is tomorrow!) since we are able to accept only 24 students at each level: Primary & Elementary!  When those spaces are filled, your child's name will be placed on a waiting list.

Our theme is "All About Wisconsin" and students will learn about native bugs, plants, animals, facts, history, famous Wisconsinites, landmarks and much more!

The cost for each summer session, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., is $75 /week, beginning Monday, June 21 and running for five weeks, through July 30. There will be no summer session during the week of July 5. Our Child Care Program will be available ($4/hour for > 10 hours/week; $5/hour drop-in rate) after summer school each day from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (if needed).

No deposit is required, but we ask you to sign a contract to hold your child's space in class. Join us! It will be fun!

Save the Date - Brewers Volunteers Training
We've just received confirmation from the Brewers about tending concessions this summer at Miller Park as a school fundraiser.  Since all potential volunteers would need to attend a mandatory training session, please mark Tuesday, July 20, at 6:00 p.m. on your calendar if you're one of the many who showed interest in volunteering. Serving alcohol, service standards, service recovery and technical training will be covered. Stay tuned...

Meadow's Monthly Mouthwatering Meals
The Meadow's April lunch, prepared and served  to around 80 diners on the 21st, consisted of delicious chicken noodle soup, baking powder biscuits, baby carrots with ranch dressing and milk.  The recipient of the "Share" portion of their Share/Invest/Save/Spend program was the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  The monthly soup lunch program provides not only the practical experience of planning, preparing and serving a healthy meal, but also gives students financial management experience. Way to go, Upper El!

In the News...
LAF is Here!
Bakers Needed!  A new idea for this year - not just brownies, bar cookies and rice krispie treats - now you can bake ANYthing!  We are having a good old-fashioned bake sale. We'll gladly accept the bars and cookies, of course, but we'll also be looking for breads, pies, cakes, caramel corn or other goodies.  Please have your baked items packaged and ready for sale.  Items can be dropped off at school any time before 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.  Thank you to Julie Zenner for all of her efforts in this and other areas of LAF!

Please take a look at the volunteer sign-up sheet. If you haven't already, please sign up for one of the open slots. We count on each of our families to participate in our biggest fundraiser ($25,000) of the year! These funds help us keep tuition rates as low as possible and funds our tuition assistance program.

After Saturday, you may store your LAF yard signs in your garage or basement for next year or you may bring them back to school next week and drop them off in the foyer.

We appreciate each family selling (or purchasing) their raffle tickets, but if you know you're not able, please return them so someone else can sell them.

Thanks to everyone for the fabulous theme baskets!  They're just wonderful and we really appreciate your efforts.  This area of LAF generally brings a profit of over $3,000!

We can still accept $5 items for our Prize Board!  We can use both child and adult items - 100 of each. Thank you to everyone who has made donations!  It's great!

A very important request - Please make at least ONE purchase from an artist on Saturday!  (Remember, Mother's Day is coming!)  Let's be sure to keep the artists happy and wanting to come back next year.  And keep in mind that, if you spend money at the Silent Auction, Prize Board, Basket Auction or Children's Area, you are generating 100% profit for our school!

Lastly, have FUN at the fair - see you Saturday!  Many thanks to our sponsors & friends!

Earth Day Success!
Monkey Joe's was hugely popular with the kids who attended on Thursday/Earth Day last week! We had 69 children bouncing, sliding and running about resulting in a rebate check of $113.00.  However, the manager, in a very generous gesture, promised to send a check for $200!  How wonderful!

Goings On
Help Our Girl Scouts
Please help our Troop 5754 with their pet donations to Countryside Humane Society.  This group of 4th & 5th grade girls is busy collecting bleach, dog & cat toys, dog & cat food or treats, old towels, etc., to donate to the shelter tn order to earn their Bronze Award.  Donations may be deposited in the collection box in the hallway near the school office until Thursday, May 20.

In addition to collecting donations, the Scouts will create and distribute brochures about pet care issues at one of Countryside's vaccination clinics, and will make seven pet beds for animals waiting to be adopted. While helping at the shelter, the girls will help soothe the animals by reading books to them. The books  to be read include "The Cat in the Hat" and "Harry Potter". The Scouts will also make pet care kits with homemade pet toys and treats to be sent home with newly adopted dogs and cats. Isn't that awesome? Let's support them!

Spring Plant Sale--Change of Plans
Our experts at CJ's Flowers are telling us that the usual gorgeous hanging baskets we get from them for the LAF won't be ready in time.  We considered having a Mother's Day sale of hanging baskets on Friday, May 14, but have reconsidered and will conduct our usual hanging basket/flats sale on Friday, May 21, at the southwest corner of our campus.  Thanks to Cathy Ulrich and Jennifer McClendon for volunteering to help us out during the morning hours. If you can help during the afternoon pick-up times, please let us know.

P.S. If you DO want a hanging basket for Mother's Day (Sunday, May 16), give us a call and we'll contact CJ's and get one for you!  "Million Bells", "Angelwing Begonias" and "Snowflake" baskets will be available for $25 each!

Family Fun Run & Walk
RACINEkids.com is hosting its First Annual Family Fun Run & Walk on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.

The 3k & 7k Run/Walk will start at Colonial Park, 2300 West High St., and travel along the Root River Parkway. Parking will be available at Gilmore Middle School and the RUSD building. For routes & details, see RACINEkids.com. Registration fees are $15/individual or $35/family of four.

This is a great way to meet up with other RMS families, do something healthy with your kids and raise money for our school! RMS will receive a portion of any pledges you collect. Sign-up by May 14 and receive a free t-shirt & water bottle!
  • Registration forms & pledge sheets will be available in the office on Monday, May 3.
  • Return registration forms at the school office by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14.
  • Pledge sheets and pledges will be due in the office by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 28.
For questions, please contact Stacey Day Kocian.

RMS Policy Reminder
Why & How We Fundraise

As in most independent schools, tuition alone does not fully cover the full cost of running the school.  A variety of fundraising efforts help bridge the gap between what tuition covers and what is necessary to fulfill the mission and vision of our school.

And while it may seem sometimes that a number of fundraisers are hitting at once, know that we always try to offer fundraisers which:
  • are in line, as much as possible, with Montessori philosophy (LAF, recycling, plant sale, Fun Run, etc.); and/or
  • provide products or services that we ordinarily need in our everyday lives (SCRIP, Market Day, Growing Power, etc.); and/or
  • provide opportunities for our RMS community to enjoy time together outside of school (wine tasting, family nights at local establishments, etc).
We so appreciate all our parents, extended families & friends who give so much of their time to ensure the successful and efficient execution of our many fundraising activities as well as those who participate by making purchases that benefit RMS.

Did you know...
...all the merchandise in the RMS bookstore is purchased at quite a reduced rate (which is why you get such great deals) and each sale results in a 20% profit for the school?  There's even a registry service that your child can use (especially helpful for birthday parties!) indicating favorite books or authors.  The bookstore is open during regular school hours and is available 24/7 online.
