Automated Manufacturing Programme launched
Recognising the need for UK industry to increase its investment in automation, the government has responded by providing funding for companies needing expert advice.
Administered through BARA, the British Automation & Robot Association, the funding provides for initial free advice, an audit visit to your production facility with full report and recommendations.
Details of the Automating Manufacturing Programme and an application form can be found on line at www.AutomatingManufacturing.co.uk
Are you an Expert?
It seems that the programme is already oversubscribed with applications from machinery vendors and systems integrators wishing to register as "Experts" and who will be rejected. What they really want are truly independent consultants who do not sell equipment or integration services, purely advice on how to automate a production process or line. If you or your company qualifies in this respect, please call David Harrison on 020 8773 8111 to give him your credentials. Be sure to mention the Profibus Group when calling. I understand the door is closing very soon.

Certified OPC Professional Courses
Following the success of the OPC workshops presented in September - "The OPC course is well structured, interesting and excellently presented!" said one delegate - MMU has again teamed up with The OPC Training Institute to host two more hands-on workshops in March 2012.
These Certified OPC Professional (COP) courses feature the use of PROFINET applications and devices and provide Automation professionals with the right skills to properly utilize OPC technology to improve plant efficiency and control. Each course offers practical hands-on experience you can apply immediately. Graduates will know exactly how to setup (or troubleshoot) an OPC connection and make it secure the instant they enter the plant.
The workshops are designed for and very pertinent to:
(1) DCS engineers (2) Database engineers: People who are interested in real-time production data (3) Other data historian/archiving engineers: those who know PI, AspenTech InfoPlus21, Siemens/Honeywell/ABB Historian systems. (4) PLC engineers who need data from PLC to Excel or other Microsoft office applications.
