PROFIenergy study confirms impressive energy savings potential
The results of a recent PROFIenergy study at Daimler and Volkswagen car plants in Germany confirm significant potential energy savings during pauses and idle periods of up to 50% or more and a savings potential on the order of 33% of total energy demand. In addition to planned pauses, e.g., on the weekend, unplanned idle periods of a plant represent another significant potential candidate for use of PROFIenergy.
Initial analyses and measurements for the PROFIenergy study were completed on production lines in Germany at Daimler's Sindelfingen plant and at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in Hanover (Porsche Panamera production). The behavior of the overall plants and their components were analyzed with respect to load curve, load distribution, and pauses.

Frimley, Surrey - October 19 and 20
Our ever-popular series of free-to-attend seminars is now headed south to Surrey. These highly-acclaimed one-day events address the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in process and industrial automation.
Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Process is structured for instrument technicians/engineers,C&I engineers and system engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern process plant. It covers the use of PROFIBUS PA in key application areas such as Pulp & Paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas.
Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Factory Automation covers the use of PROFIBUS and PROFINET in key application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management. It focuses on the practical aspects of using PROFIBUS and PROFINET in factory automation applications from system design and safety considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding. Both events devote some 50% of the seminar time to live demonstrations and deliver practical advice based on actual experience. Programme - Process Automation October 19th - Profibus for Process - an Introduction
- Profibus component selection
- Network design and Project Management
- Network health checking and fault finding - live demonstration
- Device integration and commissioning- live demonstration
- Device diagnostic transparency- live demonstration
