Certified PROFIBUS training opportunities   Certified Expert Logo

The next opportunity to get fully PROFIBUS trained and Certified to Engineer level is in the week of 18th July when MMU will present their Certified PROFIBUS Training Week.

Designed to help candidates reach their fullest potential in just a week, the schedule covers the  Certified PROFIBUS Installer course - which is pre-requisite, the Commissioning & Maintenance module, the newly-introduced  System Design module (see adjacent feature article) and finally the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer  Course.

Each course can be taken individually or as part of the full set, depending on the candidates' existing qualifications and ability.

To register for any of these events, please  download the Registration Form and return to admin@uk.profibus.com or call Ann on +44 207 193 8018 to check availability.

Industrial Wireless Networks - Configuration and Deployment

Manchester, June 14 (was 15th June) - This one day course shows how a PROFINET or PROFISAFE network can be securely and reliably deployed over an Industrial Wireless LAN network. This hands-on course covers configuration of Industrial Wireless LAN equipment and explains how to avoid the common pitfalls to successfully deploy an industrial wireless network. Certified OPC Professional Courses featuring PROFINET

OPC level 227 - 30 September

MMU has teamed up with The OPC Training Institute to host two hands-on OPC workshops featuring the use of PROFINET applications and devices.

The Certified OPC Professional (COP) courses provide Automation professionals with the right skills to properly utilize OPC technology to improve plant efficiency and control. Each course offers practical hands-on experience you can apply immediately. Graduates will know exactly how to setup (or troubleshoot) an OPC connection and make it secure the instant they enter the plant. The courses cover Level 1 and Levle 2 and last two days each.

Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS and PROFINET - free seminars

Process Automation focus - Manchester June 23, Glasgow June 28;

Factory Automation focus - Glasgow June 29

There's still time to book your place at our free seminars addressing the key practical issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in process and industrial automation.

Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Factory Automation covers the use of PROFIBUS and PROFINET in key application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management.  It focuses on the practical aspects of using PROFIBUS and PROFINET in factory automation applications from system design and safety considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.

Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Process is structured for instrument technicians/engineers,C&I engineers and system engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern process plant.  It covers the use of PROFIBUS PA in key application areas such as Pulp & Paper, chemical, utilities, pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas.

Both events devote some 50% of the seminar time to live demonstrations and deliver practical advice based on actual experience.

Programme - Factory Automation seminar

  • Introduction including PROFIBUS and PROFINET Update - Figures and Functions
  • Practical steps for a successful PROFIBUS Project
  • Introduction to Profinet
  • Using Industrial Ethernet Networks for PROFINET
  • Commissioning & Maintenance - Fault finding demo
  • Profinet Configuration including integration of Profibus and Profisafe

Programme - Process Automation seminar

  • Profibus for Process - an Introduction
  • Profibus component selection
  • Network design and Project Management

Certified PROFINET Courses

- date change

The next Certified PROFINET Installer course will now take place  in Manchester on June 15th. This is an internationally Accredited course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include industrial ethernet installation. It teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFINET networks and will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems. The course is designed for technicians and engineers who are involved in installation of PROFINET cables, devices and switches. It is also for people who wants to know the basics of industrial Ethernet. More Information and registration.

The course is prerequisite for and leads directly into the Certified PROFINET Engineer course, held at the same location on the following 2 days, 16 - 17th June. This is an Internationally Accredited in-depth course covering PROFINET network operation, design, and commissioning. It is designed for everyone who wants to know the theoretical and practical aspects of PROFINET.

Those who pass the written examination and practical tests will gain valuable, internationally recognised certification as to their competence to design and trouble-shoot PROFINET networks. More Information and registration

PROFINET usage forecast to grow rapidly

The use of Ethernet in industrial automation has consistently grown over the past decade with a host of industrial variants being introduced during that period. In order to better understand which variants are more commonly used, and how that might change in three years, Industrial Ethernet Book joined forces with IMS Research to survey its readers in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and the Americas.

THE ON-LINE SURVEY asked machine builders, manufacturers and system integrators about their preferences for both fieldbus and Ethernet networking. The topics covered included the Ethernet variants currently used and the reasons they were chosen; also the types of products that were networked with Ethernet and at what levels (supervisory, control, field) they used Ethernet. Respondents were asked to predict what they expected to be using in three years.

According to John Morse of IMS research, what is surprising is the high number of respondents expecting to use PROFINET over the next three years, particularly in the Americas. The results imply this protocol will substantially increase its share of users in EMEA, and take a greater share of users than EtherNet/IP in the Americas within three years.

Sensors & Systems - for Control & Instrumentation

The PROFIBUS Group will be presenting two papers at the all-new

Sensors & Systems - for Control & Instrumentation show that will take place at the 5 star FIVE venue in Farnborough over the 14th and 15th September 2011. Filling the need for a technical platform for the ever-growing subject of sensors and systems, the event is designed to embrace control & instrumentation, test & measurement, calibration, data acquisition and analysis.

Starting at 3.00 pm on each of the 2 days, Paul Chapple of Murrelektronik will be presenting "5 Essential Factors to Consider when Implementing Profibus/Profinet" which looks at the many factors to consider when planning a Profibus/Profinet installation, such as environment, IO types, customer specifications and reaction times and look at how they affect the whole design concept and the life-cycle costs of the system.

Andy Verwer of VTC Ltd will follow up with "Automated communications and device monitoring on PROFIBUS networks", a presentation exploring how monitoring devices can be integrated into existing SCADA and maintenance systems to provide automated notification and remote diagnosis of errors.

For more information on the event please visit www.sensorsandsystems.co.uk or contact Gail Downham on 01822 614671 or email her.
