Designed to help candidates reach their fullest potential in just a week, the schedule covers the  Certified PROFIBUS Installer course - which is pre-requisite, the Commissioning & Maintenance module, the newly-introduced  System Design module (see adjacent feature article) and finally the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer  Course.

Each course can be taken individually or as part of the full set, depending on the candidates' existing qualifications and ability.

To register for any of these events, please  download the Registration Form and return to admin@uk.profibus.com or call Ann on +44 207 193 8018 to check availability.

Industrial Wireless Networks - Configuration and Deployment

Manchester, June 15 - This one day course shows how a PROFINET or PROFISAFE network can be securely and reliably deployed over an Industrial Wireless LAN network. This hands-on course covers configuration of Industrial Wireless LAN equipment and explains how to avoid the common pitfalls to successfully deploy an industrial wireless network. Industrial Wireless Survey

Do you use or plan to use PROFIBUS or PROFINET in your application? Here's a chance to express your views and maybe win a voucher.  IMS Research is conducting a detailed survey entitled Wireless - A factory floor perspective to assess the current use of wireless communication in industrial automation and related products.

The survey which will provide valuable information on the technologies used currently and the likely changes over the next few years. It  is conducted on-line and those that submit a completed survey will receive a summary of the key results and be entered in a draw for an Amazon voucher worth GBP100.

To participate, please click on the link  - it will only take about 10 minutes.

Greetings!

Welcome to the latest edition of PROFINEWS UK, bringing you all the news of events and opportunities surrounding the PROFIBUS and PROFINET community in the UK.

This issue also brings some very sad news, that of the recent death of Michael Babb, Contributing Editor of Control Engineering Europe. Michael has always been a great friend of PROFIBUS, having written and had published many thousands of good words about our technology and its application. His passing will be a great loss to the industry.

I'm sure that if you knew Michael, or had read and appreciated some of the great articles that he had edited or written you would wish to join me in expressing sincere condolences to his family and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

With great sadness,

Bob Squirrell,

PROFIBUS Group Chairman

Get up to Speed and Certified on AS-interface

Manchester, April 27/28 - The Certified AS-i Engineer course is a 1 -day course that teaches the theory and latest practice of the Actuator Sensor Interface. Using a hands-on, practical approach, you will learn how to use AS-i intelligent sensors, actuators and remote I/O in the most efficient and effective way and see how to integrate AS-i into higher fieldbus systems. You will build, configure and exercise your own AS-interface system from scratch.

The course also covers the use of the AS-i "safety at work" profile, which allows AS-i networks to be used in safety-critical systems such as emergency stop and machine protection systems. The course also covers the latest V3.0 specification and techniques for interfacing AS-i networks to higher fieldbus networks like PROFIBUS and Industrial Ethernet.
