Upcoming Certified training opportunities   Certified Expert Logo
The next opportunity to get fully PROFIBUS trained and Certified to Engineer level is in the week of 16th May when MMU will present their Certified PROFIBUS Training Week.

The Training week  follows a new format designed to help candidates reach their fullest potential in just a week, the schedule covers the  Certified PROFIBUS Installer course - which is pre-requisite, the Commissioning & Maintenance module, the newly-introduced  System Design module (see adjacent feature article) and finally the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer  Course.

Each course can be taken individually or as part of the full set, depending on the candidates' existing qualifications and ability.

To register for any of these events, please  download the Registration Form and return to admin@uk.profibus.com or call Ann on +44 207 193 8018 to check availability.

Safety survey

Here's your chance to tell the world how much you like PROFIsafe and/or PROFIBUS PA. VDC are conducting a survey of the Functional Safety product and service market.  The areas covered include Intrinsically Safe, Machine Automatic Safeguarding, and Process Safety. By filling out this survey you can convey your needs and expectations to senior industry executives to help them to learn more about the needs and applications of end users like you. If you are involved in the use, purchase decision, or selection/consultation for any of these product groups this is a good chance to influence key product suppliers and provide input. In addition, VDC will provide all respondents who complete any of the *three sections of the survey:

    * Entry into a prize drawing for one of five $150 U.S. (Amazon gift card, check, or charitable donation) prizes. (must provide e-mail address to enter)
    * A summary of the report survey findings once the project is complete later this year

*Note: To minimize the time needed for completing the survey, respondents will only be directed to one of the three main sections (Intrinsically Safe, Machine Safety, Process Safety) of the survey. The section selected will be the one that respondents indicate as being most important or relevant to their overall experience.

Click here to complete the survey. The survey will close when they have received the required number of responses covering each market.

Safety and Security

We've added a new topic to our popular seminar series -  Functional Safety (Profisafe) and IT Security (PROFInet).

This free, one-day seminar takes place in Manchester on May 12th addresses the key safety and security issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and advanced engineering applications. Covering key application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management, it focuses on the safety aspects of system design and operations.

Supported by live demonstrations and case studies the seminar will be of great value to Designers, Production Engineers and System Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern automated factories and machinery.

Industrial Wireless training kit
5 sets of wireless access points and antenna have recently been fitted to MMU's PROFINET racks to enable presentation of both the Certified PROFINET Engineer Course and the new Industrial Wireless Course

Industrial Wireless Networks - Configuration and Deployment

Manchester, June 15

Wireless networks are increasingly being used in the automation industry with applications as diverse as controlling AGVs, storage shuttles and production cranes. As bandwidth demands increase with PLC upgrades PROFINET wireless is also being used to overcome PROFIBUS limitations such as slip-rings.

This one day course shows how a PROFINET or PROFISAFE network can be securely and reliably deployed over an Industrial Wireless LAN network. This hands-on course covers configuration of Industrial Wireless LAN equipment and explains how to avoid the common pitfalls to successfully deploy an industrial wireless network.

What will I learn on the course?

This course shows how a PROFINET or PROFISAFE network can be deployed over an Industrial Wireless LAN network. You will learn how to configure Industrial Wireless LAN equipment to  communicate with PROFINET devices, how wireless networks transmit information, what Industrial extensions are needed for a Wireless LAN to support PROFINET and PROFISAFE communication. You will learn how to use wireless network surveying tools to successfully deploy an Industrial Wireless LAN, how to verify and monitor wireless network performance.
