Upcoming Certified training opportunities   Certified Expert Logo
The next opportunity to get fully PROFIBUS trained and Certified to Engineer level is in the week of 14th March when MMU will present their Certified PROFIBUS Training Week.

The Training week  follows a new format designed to help candidates reach their fullest potential in just a week, the schedule covers the  Certified PROFIBUS Installer course - which is pre-requisite, the Commissioning & Maintenance module, the newly-introduced  System Design module (see adjacent feature article) and finally the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer  Course.

Each course can be taken individually or as part of the full set, depending on the candidates' existing qualifications and ability.

To register for any of these events, please  download the Registration Form and return to admin@uk.profibus.com or call Ann on +44 207 193 8018 to check availability.

Greetings!

Welcome to the latest edition of PROFINEWS UK, bringing you all the news of events and opportunities surrounding the PROFIBUS and PROFINET community in the UK. This edition also introduces some our new "icons" for certified products and people.

Bob Squirrell,
PROFIBUS Group Chairman

New Icons for Certified Products
Certified Product IconsPI has introduced a new series of images for use on certified products. Certified devices are an end user's guarantee of quality. In the case of PROFINET, certification is mandatory before a device can be registered and offered for sale.

New! System Design Course

Manchester, March 16

A one-day course covering the optimal design of networked automation and control systems. Centred on PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology, but also covering the use of Ethernet & AS-i technology and system software.

The need for this course

Good quality PROFIBUS, PROFINET and AS-i training has been widely available for installers, maintenance technicians and engineers for many years. Unfortunately, key decision makers - managers, system designers and system integrators are quite often less well trained than others who are involved in the engineering. Many of the errors that can be seen in installations are traceable to fundamental decisions that were taken at the early stages of the project. For example, use of inappropriate fieldbus for an application, lack of awareness of maintenance and fault-finding facilities, over-complex or inappropriate system architecture, design decisions based on equipment purchasing cost rather than whole life-cycle costs, etc.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at anyone who is dealing with the specification, design or procurement of modern automation and control systems at the engineering or technical level. The course is also suitable for device manufacturers, system integrators and technical sales/marketing people who want to know the best way to put systems together.

Safety and Security

We've added a new topic to our popular seminar series -  Functional Safety (Profisafe) and IT Security (PROFInet).

This free, one-day seminar takes place in Manchester on May 12th addresses the key safety and security issues arising from the use of digital communications technologies in automated manufacturing and advanced engineering applications. Covering key application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management, it focuses on the safety aspects of system design and operations.

Supported by live demonstrations and case studies the seminar will be of great value to Designers, Production Engineers and System Engineers involved in design, operation and maintenance of modern automated factories and machinery.
