Next-Gen Wireless in Control Systems ...

The PROFIBUS Group is pleased to announce that is supporting 2 of the IET's forthcoming events. It has also become a supporting partner of the seminar on Next-Gen Wireless in Control Systems to be held in London on 23rd February 2010.

How can you ensure your wireless installations are reliable and secure?

This seminar will highlight solutions to a range of challenges in installing industrial wireless within different networking strategies.

Delegates will learn:

* how to improve personnel and asset safety underground through smart sensing technology
* how flexible software can integrate wireless and wired systems
* how challenges regarding security, reliability, robustness and interoperability are overcome

More information and how to register can be found on the web at www.theiet.org/wireless-control.

Special pricing for PROFIBUS UK Members ...

Members of The PROFIBUS Group will be able to take advantage of the reduced IET member rate. To claim this, members should register using the downloadable fax-back registration form from the website, and write "Profibus member" in the space for IET membership number.

And there's currently a group discount of 3 delegates for the price of 2 if you book in time!
... PROFIBUS Group supports Smart Instrumentation

We are also supporting the IET's Smart Instrumentation event on 27 April.  Smart Instrumentation 2010 provides a forum for safety critical industries to discuss how to overcome technical and security hurdles associated with employing smart instrumentation in equipment. It is the only vendor-neutral UK event dedicated to smart instrumentation, blending executive panel discussions and real life case studies.

Key topics include making complex devices easier to use, implementing and sharing reliability testing tools, integrating smart instruments into legacy systems, SIL levels using smart instruments and integrating smart instrumentation into your working practices.

Greetings!

Welcome to the second edition of PROFINEWS UK for 2010, bringing you all the news of events and opportunities surrounding the PROFIBUS and PROFINET community in the UK.

The PROFIBUS Group is delighted to have the enthusiastic support of major equipment and systems suppliers, installers and satisfied users in joining together to offer their experience and advice to potential users. The events organised to introduce the subject, using practical examples, have helped smooth the introduction and use of PROFIBUS, PROFINET and PROFIsafe technology across all industries, primarily by learning from descriptions of such previous installations, and talking to experienced engineers in similar plants.

The main UK based event for this exchange of experience is the two day User Conference, scheduled for 29-30 June at Stratford Manor, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire.  Based on the feedback gained from first time visitors to these conferences over the past six years, the programme offers a totally user-focused conference, hands-on workshops and an exhibition, to enable the advantages, pitfalls and technology to be demonstrated, in an atmosphere that encourages further discussions.

Sessions include audience participation so there will be ample opportunity to explore for yourself how PROFIBUS and PROFINET equipment and techniques are used in practice.

Free Seminars

Regional conferences are organised around the UK throughout the year, usually by taking advantage of the office conference facilities of a PROFIBUS equipment supplier: during March there are two events scheduled in the South of England to introduce potential new users to PROFIBUS technology.

The 'Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS & PROFINET in Factory Automation' is a one-day seminar on 11th March that coverskey customer application areas such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics, automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control systems and energy management. More details and event registration

At Frimley in Surrey, on 17th March, a parallel event that will introduce the 'Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Process', which will focus on the use of PROFIBUS PA in industrial plants such as those found in Pulp & Paper, Chemical, Utilities, Pharmaceutical, and Oil & Gas. Still a few places available ...

Just next week, so contact us ASAP to claim your place:

Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course  -     9 Feb

An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFIBUS networks including DP, PA and optical fibre technology. Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

PROFIBUS Commissioning & Maintenance Course  -    10 Feb

A one-day course designed as an add-on to the Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course. Covering the practical techniques of faultfinding on "operational" PROFIBUS networks. Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern PROFIBUS analyser and Class-II master (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems. Students also learn how to use a soft digital storage oscilloscope in conjunction with these tools to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults.  The Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course is a pre-requisite for attending this course.

System Design Course - 11 Feb

A one-day course covering the optimal design of networked automation and control systems. Centred on PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology, but also covering the use of Ethernet & AS-i technology and system software. The System Design Course builds on the basic knowledge of the Certified Installer and provides additional knowledge on designing not only PROFIBUS systems, but also how to use Ethernet, PROFINET and other technologies appropriately.  The Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course is a pre-requisite for attending this course.

... and the following week, there's

The Certified PROFINET Engineer Course   -  16-18 February

This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes. At the end of the training there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application.

PROFIBUS Member achieves ISO 9001

We are delighted to report that PROFIBUS Group Regular Member company Cleveland Systems Engineering has been awarded ISO 9001 certification, following an assessment by an independent body.

This certification has only been achieved by about 5% of UK businesses and this prestigious award is recognised world wide.

Managing Director Tam Ashcroft commented "We have always been very proud of the service we offer our clients and the way that we conduct our business. Now with the award of ISO 9001 certification this has been confirmed by outside experts who are used to judging quality standards on a daily basis in a wide variety of industries".

Cleveland is also an Accredited PROFIBUS Company, employing only Certified PROFIBUS Engineers and Installers on all its PROFIBUS projects.
