Energy Management Graphic from Endress + Hauser

Utilities measurement is an essential part of every manufacturing plant in order to maintain efficiency and reduce overheads. With the increased demand for efficiency from carbon emissions legislation, the need to measure and manage utilities is greater than ever before.

As a leading supplier of process automation solutions, PROFIBUS UK Senior member company Endress+Hauser works closely with the utilities sector to provide complete energy management solutions from initial measurement right through to data collection and analysis. Whether it's electricity and compressed air in the compressor house, steam flow and gas in the boiler room or water usage throughout the plant, Endress+Hauser offers the ideal solution.
Endress+Hauser offers a wide range of utility metering devices to provide the 'best fit' for any application. Choose from vortex, differential pressure (DP), thermal, Coriolis, electromagnetic, ultrasonic flowmeters and a variety of electricity meters. Data collection is carried out via our Fieldgate gateways which provide time and date stamped energy interval data collection via wireless or wired solutions onto an Ethernet network.

Having difficulty getting PROFINEWS UK Edition?

Did your copy get "bounced" and you've had to find some other way to read it?

Sometimes company email systems just don't like newsletters such as this. They  "bounce" them thinking they are spam and it can be very difficult to get them to treat them otherwise.

One way round this is If you would like to receive future newsletters like this register again using a different email address. If you don't currently have an alternative email address, it can be very easy to rectify and in many cases, entirely free of charge. For example, Google offers a free service called Google Mail which you can sign up for at

The advantage of an email service such as this is that you can access your emails on the web from almost anywhere and/or have them forwarded to wherever you wish. Once you have another email address then simply sign up again at

If you want to persist with your company's Email Administrator to ensure that messages from [email protected] can be received, they may find the Help Information at very useful.

Training places available October/November

There are still a few places available on the following scheduled courses at MMU:

PROFIBUS Product Development Course - 20 October 2009

A one-day course for product manufacturers and engineering companies who want to develop a PROFIBUS product. If you are a manufacturer of drives, transmitters, or intelligent valve actuators, you need to implement the latest technology in your products. PROFIBUS technology is the wayforward. This one-day course will give you an overview of the technology plus details of the communication protocol, tools and methods to get you started correctly on development of your own PROFIBUS products. More info

Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course  -    3rd November

An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFIBUS networks including DP, PA and optical fibre technology. Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems. The course is essential preparation to the Certified Engineer and Commissioning and Maintenance courses. More info
PROFIBUS Commissioning & Maintenance Course  -    4th November

A new one-day course covering the practical techniques of faultfinding on "operational" PROFIBUS networks. Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern PROFIBUS analyser and Class-II master (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems. Students also learn how to use a soft digital storage oscilloscope in conjunction with these tools to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults. More info

Certified PROFIBUS Engineer  - 24-27 November

For engineers wishing to build their careers around PROFIBUS in either industrial or process automation, companies wanting to benchmark their technical staff or consultants seeking a recognised professional qualification in industrial and process networking, this is the ideal opportunity to train for an internationally-recognised qualification as a Certified PROFIBUS Engineer. More info

Certified PROFINET Engineer Course   -  17-19 November

This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes. At the end of the training there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application. More info

Conference Update - Call for Suggestions

PROFIBUS Conference in actionWhat subjects do you want us to cover?

While we're still in the process of putting the programme together, there's still a chance to influence the content! We'd like to know what subjects you'd like addressed. Energy efficiency? Water saving? These are both topical subjects and we are already aware of several papers that will address these issues. But what else would you like discussed? Please let the Papers Committee have your suggestions by email ASAP. Thanks.
