Free Transmission Line Simulator!
Verwer Training & Consultancy is offering readers a free
download of a simple little application that simulates a transmission
line (i.e. a long PROFIBUS cable).
The simulation runs on Windows XP and Vista and can be used to
visualize the signals as they pass along the cable. You can also study
reflections and see waht happens when the end of line terminator
doesn't match the cable characteristic impedance. More |
How to Design a PROFIBUS System
There are still a few places available on the System Design Course at MMU on 7 October. This is a one-day
course covering the optimal design of networked automation and control systems.
Centred on PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology, but also covering the use of
Ethernet & AS-i technology and system software, the System Design Course builds on the basic knowledge of the Certified
Installer and provides additional knowledge on designing not only PROFIBUS
systems, but also how to use Ethernet, PROFINET and other technologies
appropriately. This new System Designer Course shows the benefits and pitfalls of each technology. It deals with the overall architecture of the control system and how to use different technologies appropriately to design an optimised system that is reliable, maintainable and flexible for future expansion and modification. It covers the complete control system design from hardware through to software and shows how open technologies can be used to future-proof your plant.

Reminder - 2 great seminars are free to attend!
Attendance at either of our seminars is
free of charge to pre-registered delegates from the User community, i.e.
companies that own, operate, design, build or maintain automated factory systems or process plant...
Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Process - Strathclyde, October 29
This
seminar addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital
fieldbus communications technologies in process and hybrid industries. Covering
the use of PROFIBUS PA in key application areas such as Pulp & Paper,
Chemical, Utilities, Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas today,
it focuses on the practical aspects of using PROFIBUS in process industry
applications from system design and hazardous area considerations through to
maintenance and fault-finding.
Supported by live demonstrations of actual tools
used in calibration and maintenance, the programme will be of great value to
Instrument
Technicians/Engineers, C&I Engineers and System Engineers involved in
design, operation and maintenance of modern process plant.

Practical Aspects of PROFIBUS in Factory Automation - Manchester, October 27
This
seminar addresses the key practical issues arising from the use of digital
communications technologies in automated manufacturing and advanced engineering
applications. Covering the use of PROFIBUS and PROFINET in key application areas
such as packaging, printing, electrical and electronics assembly, robotics,
automotive engineering, drives, mechanical handling and logistics, control
systems and energy management, it focuses on the practical aspects of using
PROFIBUS and PROFINET in factory automation applications from system design and
safety considerations through to maintenance and fault-finding.
Supported by
live demonstrations of actual tools used in configuration and maintenance, the
programme will be of great value to Designers,
Production Engineers and System Engineers involved in design, operation and
maintenance of modern automated factories and machinery.

Holiday plans for 2010? Keep 29-30 June free!
Whatever your plans for 2010, make sure you attend the
PROFIBUS and Profinet User Conference, scheduled for Stratford on Avon on 29
and 30 June. The conference is designed as an information exchange for anyone
involved with PROFIBUS fieldbus or Ethernet technologies, for factory and
process automation: whether beginners or experienced users.
Why not share your experience?
The conference encourages
presentations of real application experiences, and is seeking speakers from
users or suppliers to make a 30 minute presentation, covering anything from
system design, right through to commissioning, operation and maintenance. What better way to have the whole group of
conference experts think about your site systems? Plus speakers get to attend
the conference free of charge! Please submit your presentation outline before
December 2009, for review by the organisers.
What subjects do you want us to cover?
While we're still in the process of putting the programme together, there's still a chance to influence the content! We'd like to know what subjects you'd like addressed. Energy efficiency? Water saving? These are both topical subjects and we are already aware of several papers that will address these issues. But what else would you like discussed? Please let The Papers Committee have your suggestions by email ASAP. Thanks.

Come and Join Us!
Over a 1200 companies worldwide belong to PI also known as PROFIBUS International, the support organisation for users and manufacturers of PROFIBUS and PROFINET products and systems.
PI is the largest automation organization of its
type in the world, with a network of regional offices and
globally-based member companies. PI also has a network of competence
centers, training and test organizations that contribute to and support
developers, integrators and end users. No other fieldbus organization has a 'community'
better able to support the automation market and its end users with
solutions designed to help manufacturing enterprises maximize profits.
So why not join us? It's relatively inexpensive
and brings many attractive and cost-saving benefits.
