GOA Celebrates Israel's 63rd!
There's no celebration like a GOA celebration, and this year's Yom Ha'atzmaut festivities were no exception! At the Lower School, students
enjoyed Israeli music, art projects and games and also learned about Gadna (youth corps).
Our Upper School celebration included performances by the GOA dance team and choir. Middle School students got a Krav Maga (Israeli martial arts) lesson and played Israeli games. Our High School students also had an opportunity to hear from Hilary Krieger, Washington Bureau Chief for the Jerusalem Post (a discussion sponsored by Caravan for Democracy and JNF). All students were treated to a falafel lunch, provided by our Parents' Association!
Click here to watch a video created by the Upper School Israel Clubs for the MetroWest Israel Program Center's Yom Ha'atzmaut competition for teens - an Israeli song "lip dub" competition. Since their song is about singing and dancing in Jerusalem, our Israel Club students worked with our Neshama students (who were actually singing and dancing in Jerusalem) in true collaboration, under the leadership of Gal Dafadi, our Rishona. Together they created a video, which shows our students' passion and love for Israel, their creativity, team work and spirit!

The Flame... Online!
Under the capable leadership of 11th grader Josh Pearlstein, 10th grader Geffen Posner and editors - 11th graders Jacob Glickman and Jack Rabner - our student newspaper, The Flame, is now online! Beginning today, The Flame has its own website - www.theflame.GoldaOchAcademy.org - and is linked with the GOA website.
According to Rabbi Michael Monson, "As the faculty advisor to The Flame, I feel a sense of great pride. This is a milestone for our editors and writers and for the entire GOA community." He added that "The efforts of the students were guided masterfully by Donna Oshri (Director of Marketing & Communications) who worked through the project with great dedication. We are also grateful to Mark Effron, father of our former flame editor, Leah Effron."
Yasher koach to The Flame staff. You can read the online version of the flame, by clicking here. |

Making a Difference in Our Community
Our Middle School students went out into their community and made a difference to those in need of help as part of our annual Middle School Community Service Day on May 6th. They visited and volunteered at such sites as Reeves Reed Arboretum, where they helped in the spring cleanup of flower and tree beds, worked on weeding and mulching and contributed a lot to the overall beautification of the site; the Community Food Bank, where they helped box food and prepare cans of food for donation; Bridges Outreach, where they helped pack over 100 dinners for the homeless of NY and NJ and wrapped birthday presents that will be given to kids that are homeless in NY; Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey, Elementary School, where they helped in the classes and worked as teachers' helpers all over the school; and Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey, High School, where they helped with the preparations for the HS Prom (that afternoon) and the school's 5K race that was run this past weekend
