The Chamber is now on Facebook and Twitter.  Sign up to be friends on Facebook and to follow us on Twitter, and you'll be kept up to date on the latest at the Chamber, and depending on your options, you can receive messages by text message right on your cellphone.  You'll find links to both pages in the left column of this newsletter, and on the Chamber home page.

We've been on Facebook for a while, and have pages for special events like Friday Night Live, Dickens Village and the Wistaria Festival.  We also make event pages for mixers and meetings.  Sign up to be our friend, and you'll be invited to these events, and be kept informed as the event draws closer.

We've also created a couple lists on our Twitter page that might be of interest to you.  Sign up to follow our Local Chambers list, and you'll receive messages from various San Gabriel Valley Chambers of Commerce to let you know what they are up to.  Currently, Monrovia, Duarte, Arcadia and Pasadena Chambers of Commerce are on Twitter, and we follow them on this list.  As other area Chambers establish themselves on Twitter, we'll add them too, so you can be advised when someone has an event that might help you with your business.  The other list is our SM-Local-Elected list, on which we follow the Twitter pages for local elected officials that represent areas in which our membership is located.  Currently, we are following State Senator Bob Huff,  LA County Supervisor Michael Antonovich, and Assemblyman Anthony Portantino (for our Pasadena members).

We follow several business publications, local chambers, local elected representatives, and even some distant Chambers that have become known for their strength with online promotion.  We check periodically, and if there's something that might be of particular interest, we'll retweet it so you can be aware of it, as well.

A word of warning, though for those of you new to Twitter.  Twitter has been inundated with member messages since the beginning of the World Cup, so until that is over, there is a greater likelihood that when you try to use it, you will see the "Fail Whale" advising you that Twitter is over capacity.  Keep trying, it usually doesn't last too long.
4th of July Festivities
Due to the 4th of July falling on a Sunday this year, we get an extra day of festivities.  The Parade will actually be held on Monday, July 5th at 10am, following the traditional Open House at the Sierra Madre Woman's Club. Following the parade will be the old fashioned games in the Park (egg toss, sack race, etc.) and the Night Blooming Jazzmen performing Dixieland jazz over by the Beer Garden.

Festivities kick off on Saturday evening, with the Beer Garden, a concert at 6pm by hometown band Aluminum Marshmallow, and the highly popular bubblewrap fireworks.  The next evening at 5:30, classic rock will fill the park, performed by Rocktail, followed by a family Movie in the Park.  The Beer Garden will also be open on Sunday evening.

Be sure to join us downtown for a weekend of fun, family and old-fashioned patriotism.  There's more extensive

NEW WATER RULES FOR FOURTH OF JULY...

Traditionally, water has been squirted back and forth amongst viewers and participants during the parade.  However, this year the City has established a new set of Water Play Zone Guidelines. Sierra Vista Park is now the only designated water play zone (west side of the park on the grass lawn).  The Sierra Madre Fire Department will be spraying water into Sierra Vista Park for children and families to play in. Only water/squirt guns will be permitted at the water play zone.  Absolutely no water balloons or use of water hoses will be tolerated at the water play zone or anywhere along the parade route.

Absolutely NO water play by paradegoers will be allowed along the parade route.  Parking signage will exhibit a "No Water Zone" notice along Sierra Madre Blvd.

Chamber to Sponsor L.A.'s Largest Mixer, Great Opportunity to Showcase Your Business

LA Mixer Banner

The Sierra Madre Chamber will be on hand at the Shrine Auditorium on July 22nd as one of the sponsors of L.A.'s Largest Mixer.  This annual event last year drew 2,500 attendees to see what its 250 exhibitors (including 35 Chambers of Commerce) had to offer.  We will be there this year to promote Sierra Madre and our member businesses.  To learn more about L.A.'s Largest Mixer, click here to view the flyer with information detailing how you can become an exhibitor (it's not too late to reserve your space), or click here to view a video featuring interviews with several exhibitors, including our friend Paul Little of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.  You can also visit their website at www.LAMixer.com.
