Sponsorship Opportunities Available for Wistaria Festival The Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce annually hosts the Wistaria Festival in March. This event has become, for many people, Sierra Madre's signature event, and the SMPD estimated last year's crowd at nearly 13,000 people. It is definitely the biggest single day event in Sierra Madre.
Take advantage of this event to increase awareness of your business. Sponsorship opportunities are available, and you can find out more about that by clicking here. All of the sponsorship levels include a booth in the downtown festival where you can promote your business, VIP shuttle tickets to the vine for you, your business associates or employees, and logos and links on the Chamber's website and third party websites designed to increase traffic to your site and increase awareness of your business/brand. These links will remain on the Chamber websites for years to come.
This year's top sponsorship also includes some high visibility benefits never before offered. Top level sponsors will have the opportunity for their logo to be displayed on every shuttle ticket, as well as links and logos on the ticket ordering page (last year nearly 2800 people rode the shuttle to the vine). As an additional bonus, the top sponsors will also have the chance to put their logo on the sleeves of the shirts the Chamber will be producing for sale, not just at the Wistaria Festival but throughout the year, while supplies last.
So click on the link to find out more about sponsorships, or call the Chamber at (626) 355-5111. |
Congratulations to Our Friends in Arcadia After years of waiting and moving slowly but steadily toward their goal, our friends in Arcadia and at the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce held a ceremony this morning to unveil a new sign announcing the coming of the Gold Line to Arcadia, at the location of what will be their station at First Ave and Santa Clara.
Requests for Proposal and Requests for Qualifications have recently been issued, and construction of this second phase of the Gold Line is scheduled to begin in June 2010. The first phase, from Los Angeles to Pasadena, was completed in 2003. This second phase (Phase 2A) will extend the Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa, with Phase 2B extending the line from Glendora to Montclair. An additional phase to extend the line all the way to the Ontario Airport is now being studied. It is planned that Phase 2A will be complete in 2013, with Phase 2B completion scheduled for 2017.
Members of the Arcadia City Council, the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, and the Foothill Extension Construction Authority, including CEO Habib Balian, who recently was a featured speaker at the Sierra Madre Rotary Club, were on hand at the unveiling (click photo below to enlarge). Council member Roger Chandler pointed to two recent occurences as major turning points in the process. One was a trip to Washington that resulted in a letter from a bipartisan group of legislators that resulted in the MTA allocating $800 million in Measure R Funds to the Gold Line Extension as part of the Long Range Transportation Plan, and the other was the donation of land by the City of Monrovia for use as a much needed maintenance yard.
Arcadia Chamber president Kevin Zimmerman (pictured above right, click to enlarge) noted that the new station will be minutes from Santa Anita Park and it is hoped that the train will boost attendance there and also noted the station's proximity to the town's shopping district at First Ave. and Huntington Drive, adding that he hopes "people don't wait for the train" to shop there. |
Sierra Madre Picked for FEMA Pilot Project The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a pilot project submitted by Donna Cayson, Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) Distinguished Fellow. Cayson, a retired Sierra Madre Police Dept. officer, is assigned to the Department of Homeland Security; FEMA, National Preparedness Directorate. Cayson's proposed initiative seeks to develop and pilot a model that will increase individual preparedness through an all-inclusive community based approach combined with the development and implementation of a Technical Assistance Template.
The purpose of this pilot project is to take action in response to recent research which indicated that there has been little increase in the number of prepared citizens over the past six years. Cayson believes that individual preparedness will increase when the collective efforts of all community stakeholders are focused on the common goal of individual preparedness.
Nearly two dozen local organizations have been invited to participate in the program, and the Chamber of Commerce is taking an active role.
Phase I of the project is to determine the current state of preparedness among the residents of Sierra Madre and those who work in the City, and thus likely to be participants in the event of emergency.
A website has been set up and the Chamber invites all who fit the above criteria to visit the site and participate in a brief survey that will take just a couple minutes of your time, in order to help assess the current state of preparedness. The web address is http://site.smipp.org/.
Please take a moment to stop by the site and respond to the survey. We'll keep you updated on subsequent phases of the project as it moves forward. It is anticipated that if this pilot project is a success, the template created in Sierra Madre will be a model for towns nationwide.
