Greetings!

After a hiatus of a couple months, the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce e-newsletter returns!  Thanks to all those who sent their well wishes and prayers my way during the last couple months.  For those who may not know, I had a little trouble with my ticker, but I'm back on the road to recovery, and appreciate those who kept me in their thoughts.  I also want to thank some people who stepped up to make sure things continued to run smoothly while I was out, particularly Tiffany Bailey, Board members Halcyon Koerber, Linda Thunes and Susan Henderson, and especially President Matt Krantz, who added lots of extra Chamber responsibilities to an already hectic holiday season at his own business.  And anyone else who stepped up during my absence that I may not be aware of.  All your hard work is much appreciated.  Bill Coburn, Exec. Director

Santa and SMRFA Rose Princesses

Santa is escorted to Renaissance Plaza by SMRFA 2010 Rose Princesses

Hundreds of folks turned out to kick off the holiday shopping season, (vendors and merchants alike reported excellent sales), to see Santa, enjoy a horse and buggy ride, sled in the snow, and enjoy the carolers.

Foothill Unity Center Helps Local Families, With Your Help
Foothill Unity Center plans to help 1,600 to 1,800 families in need this holiday season, 33% more than last year.  They hope to provide new toys and clothes for up to 3,000 children, 700 more children than last year.  Their wish list to help them accomplish this?  Turkeys, fresh, frozen of certificates.  Food for Holiday Boxes.  New children's toys and clothing for all ages (0 - 17).  Sponsors of food or toy drives.  Funds or gift cards to help fill in the gaps, and clean plastic grocery bags to pack the food boxes.

There are lots of ways to help:
  • Volunteers who sort and pack food boxes, toys and clothing enjoy friendly good fellowship while helping others.
  • Those who love arts and crafts can decorate Angels.
  • You can adopt an Angel, shop and fulfill a child's dream.
  • Sponsor a toy or food drive.
  • Short on time?  Donate money, turkey certificates, or gift cards.  They don't want any child to be without a gift for the holidays, and gift cards in $20 increments from local stores such as Target, Walmart, Kohl's, Old Navy and Best Buy make ideal teen gifts.
  • Or you can be a volunteer who welcomes families and helps with the distribution on event days - or clean up.
Holiday food and toy sorting is taking place through the 16th.  On the 17th and 18th, set up for Holiday packing will take place.  Dec. 19th volunteers will pack Holiday toys and food.  Dec. 21st and 22nd are Holiday Distribution days, and the 23rd will be Breakdown/Clean-up Day.  If you would like to volunteer any of these days, please e-mail volunteer@foothillunitycenter.org, or call (626) 358-3486.
