The walk, benefiting City of Hope in Duarte, is schedule to take place on Saturday, Oct. 3rd in downtown Sierra Madre, from 4 to 7pm. The main streets of Sierra Madre will be closed down as attendees visit more than thirty shops, enjoying samples of wines from award-winning San Antonio Winery and cuisine from restaurants from Sierra Madre and surrounding cities.

In addition to the wining and dining, Walk attendees will be entertained at nearly a dozen outdoor venues by jazz performers and bands selected Mario Lalli, whose Caf 322, located in Sierra Madre has become known throughout Southern California for the quality of both its cuisine and the entertainment Lalli schedules. There will also be a silent auction, featuring a wide variety of items, including Rose Parade and Rose Bowl tickets, Dodget ticket packages, art, jewelry, gourmet dinners, Sierra Madre Playhouse tickets, and a live concert and in-home party for up to twenty-five people.

Proceeds from the event will benefit City of Hope, recognized as a world leader in cancer research and treatment. In its first three years, the Wine and Jazz Walk has raised and donated more than $130,000 for the cause.

Pre-sales of Wine and Jazz Walk tickets online or at local merchants are $35, with tickets the day of the event to be sold for $40. In addition, making its debut this year will be the San Antonio Winery Wine Garden, featuring "Sweet Heat Latin Jazz Ensemble," a Cuban & Latin Jazz Big Band. Tickets for the Garden, located in the village setting of Kersting Court from 6 to 8pm, cost $20 when purchased in tandem with Wine and Jazz Walk tickets online, but will not be available separate from the Wine and Jazz Walk tickets until the day of the event. Tickets to the Garden on the day of the Walk will be $40, unless purchased with a Wine and Jazz Walk ticket, in which case the reduced $20 cost will apply.

Bottle Shop Adds Look Into The Past

SM, 1967
Chamber Member The Bottle Shop has a new item of interest for those who enjoy the history of our favorite village. Hanging across the wall above the beverage refrigerator is a compilation of photos that depict what the south side of Sierra Madre Blvd. looked like in 1967 (click image above to see a larger version).  A neighbor of Bottle Shop owner Bill Sullivan's dad, Bill senior, provided some pictures that were taken 42 years ago, in progression from Baldwin Ave. to Hermosa.  With the help of some computerized magic to bring the photos to a more level playing field, you can now see what looks like a panoramic view of Sierra Madre's main drag, and the stores that were on it, a year before the summer of love.  The above picture doesn't begin to do justice to the real thing, so we encourage you to stop by and get a closer look at our town's history, and while you're there, check out the climate controlled wine room or pick up some of your favorite beer, which we are told is the coldest beer in town.

September Mixer to be at Charcuterie

Charcuterie will host the first of what is expected to be two September mixers on Thursday, Sept. 10, 120 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., from 5:30 to 7pm.  Cost is $10/members, $15/non-members.  We'll bring you more on this mixer, and the second mixer (once we confirm the date) in a future newsletter, but wanted to give you some advance notice to pencil it in your calendars.

The Sierra Madre Farmer's Market has extended its hours till 8pm, allowing shoppers to come by in the cooler evening hours during the dog days of summer.  In addition, Tanja Castle of Scholastic Gardens (which manages the market) tells me that they are in discussions with several new vendors and hope to have new items become available in the next few weeks.  Ms. Castle added that they are also expecting to again have live music each week.  As extra incentive, you might also want to stop by the Chamber booth at Friday Night Live, where you can pick up coupons good for $1 off your minimum $5 purchase at the Farmer's Market (one coupon per vendor, please)
