Downtown Overlay Zone/Planning Commission Thursday, June 4th, the Planning Commission will continue its discussion about the Downtown Overlay Zone, and assuming they finish the discussion, the June 18th meeting will see the completed recommendation in front of the Commission for consideration. If approved, the recommendation will then be brought to City Council, who will then consider it as well.
The current DOZ is decidedly unfriendly to business, and the Planning Commission recognizes that and is working to ensure that the revisions, if/when they are approved, are more friendly to business and a better solution for our downtown district.
Most of the discussion at the last meeting centered around what uses are to be allowed, and which of those are to be "permitted" and which will require a Conditional Use Permit." It is expected that most of the discussion at this week's meeting will revolve around design criteria for the "C" (Commercial) Zone.
This issue will directly effect the downtown district, including new and (some) existing businesses and I encourage all business and property owners to get involved. If you are unable to make it to the meeting, please feel free to call or e-mail the Chamber and let us know your thoughts. If you are able to make the meeting, I encourage you to do so, and look forward to seeing you there. |

Greetings!
Welcome to our first communication with our members via Constant Contact e-newsletters!! We expect this valuable tool will allow us to communicate with our members more regularly/effectively, but on our first couple tries, you may notice a glitch or two, so please be patient. For instance, a couple lines up, it says Dear (Contact First Name). I assume your name is going to be there when we send this out, but we'll have to wait and see...If this isn't addressed to who it should be, let us know.
There's lots new going on with the Chamber, and we encourage you to get involved. We have upcoming events you can read about further down the page. We have a new president, a new secretary, a new executive director, and several new members. There are new sections on the website, new services for our members, and much more.
Stop by and see us at the newly reorganized office. Let's discuss how we can work together to promote your business (and other Chamber businesses) more effectively. And check your e-mail regularly to see what the Chamber (meaning you, your colleagues and your friends) are up to! |

Breakfast Mixer
Next Thursday, June 11th, the Chamber will hold its annual "State of the City" breakfast mixer, featuring Mayor Maryann MacGillivray. Stop by and enjoy breakfast, catered by Corfu, a fresh cup of coffee donated by Bean Town Coffee House, and a "green" environment with recyclable finishings by Waste Less Living. The mixer will be held in the Hart Park House in Memorial Park, at 222 S. Sierra Madre Blvd. Cost for the mixer is $10/member, $15/non-member. It helps us know how much food to order if you RSVP to the Chamber at 355-5111, but if you forget or just don't get it done, don't feel you have to stay away, you're always welcome! |

Friday Night Live Is Coming!!! The Chamber is resurrecting the popular Friday Night Live event from the summer of 2001, and each Friday from July 17th to August 28th we will have live bands performing in Kersting Court, along with giveaways, prizes and family fun!! We ask all our member businesses to participate, and stay open late on Friday nights, (till 9:30, or at the very least 9pm). We are currently selecting and scheduling the bands, and recruiting sponsors. Sponsor levels are (Friends of FNL ($100), Band Sponsors ($150), and Evening Sponsors ($250). We'll be doing press and web releases that will thank our sponsors, window flyers, and posters. We've also started a new web page that will promote and/or link to our sponsors, that will have the band schedule when it's finalized. Find that online at www.SMFridayNightLive.info. Do you want to sponsor? Maybe you have a prize or a giveaway that we can include? Do you have/know a band that would be a good fit? Just looking for something to do on Friday, and can volunteer to help blow up balloons, etc.? Call Bill or Tiffany at the Chamber (5111) or e-mail us at info@SierraMadreChamber.com.

Sierra Madre Merchandise For Sale
Do your part to help save the environment by shopping with our re-usable Sierra Madre grocery/tote bag. Communicate with a loved one using beautiful Sierra Madre "Wistaria" postcards. Protect your scalp from harmful UV rays with our Sierra Madre ball cap. The Sierra Madre Chamber has these items for your use and soon will offer more Sierra Madre items for sale. Totes are $5, caps are $10, and postcards are just $1.00/ea. or $6/five.
They make good gifts too, particularly for folks that have moved away (or are going off to college?) but miss their favorite little village.
And soon, you'll be able to purchase these items online at the Chamber website or at downtown merchants. In the meantime, you can pick them up at the Chamber office, 37 Auburn Ave., #1. |
Is it Time to Renew?
Some of you are a little late sending in your renewal dues, and in this economy, that's easy to understand. Give us a call and we'll work it out with you. But if we don't hear from you, you just may find yourself dropped from the member rolls, and neither of us wants that! When you renew, it's seamless, but new/returning members have to pay an administrative fee and be approved (or re-approved) by the Board. If your membership lapses, you'll be removed from the Chamber website and print directories, and your member privileges will disappear, such as reduced admission to Chamber mixers, reduced advertising rates in chamber publications and at Chamber events, reduced annual membership dues rates at other area Chambers, and much more. So send in your dues today, or at least contact us and let us know the status of your payment... | |
