12th Annual Thanksgiving
Dinner Celebration
The holidays are right around the corner and the Partnership for Successful Living is all ready preparing for the 12th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
Hosted at Welcoming Light's The Institute, a Thanksgiving feast for any community members that might be living on the streets, in a shelter, couch surfing, or are down on their luck will be offered on November 20,2012, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at 45 High Street in Nashua.
At last year's celebration, over 350 people gathered together to share a bountiful meal, wonderful music, and companionship. To accommodate the large numbers, Harbor Homes is hoping community members will assist by donating desserts, providing canned cranberry sauce and vegetables, volunteering to clean-up, or by making donations to offset the cost of food and supplies.
For information on donating to the Thanksgiving Dinner please e-mail hope@harborhomes.org or contact Jennifer Ceballos at (603)882-3616 x.1139. View pictures from previous Dinners.

Thomas O. Cash HIV/AIDS Walk
The Southern NH HIV/AIDS Task Force raised nearly $5000 at their annual Thomas O Cash HIV/AIDS Walk on September 8, 2012! Special thanks again to our sponsors Healthy at Home and Dube Investment Properties, LLC and also to the City of Nashua (Greeley Park), Danelly's Subs and Pizza, Until There's a Cure, and Toyota of Nashua for their support. Wonderful entertainment was provided by Greg Descoteaux and Mike Amichetti. Congratulations to "Nana and her Care Bears" for raising the most money as a team, to Dr. Robert Zinnes for making the largest donation, and Jessica LeBlanc for raising the most money through individual sponsorships. We are so grateful to our community for their generosity in helping us to maintain crucial support services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Greater Nashua and education services to those most at risk for acquiring HIV.

Milford Regional Counseling Services &
Harbor Homes benefit from a Day of Caring
On September 11, 2012 United Way held their annual Day of Caring. The Day of Caring is a national campaign in which volunteers from businesses, churches, schools, hospitals and more, get involved in much-needed community service projects . In Greater Nashua, this year's campaign allowed volunteers from BAE, People's United Bank and the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center to come into two of our Partnership agencies to spread the joy of caring.
Maple Street Emergency Shelter of Harbor Homes was helped with the installation of shelving in our guests' closets, which has allowed them to store personal belongings in a more organized way. Volunteers also cleaned the walls of one room in Maple Street that had been smoked-damaged. Residents were very appreciative of the community service work done by United Way's volunteers, and loved the new shelves and clean walls.
Milford Regional Counseling Services benefited from the Day of Caring as well. In addition to weeding and trimming the bushes, volunteers planted beautiful beds of mums (generously donated by Amherst Garden Center) in front of the building -- which will be seen by thousands who drive by this location.
Harbor Homes and Milford Regional Counseling Services would like to extend a big thank you to both Jack's Pizza and Foodies for donating lunch.
We also cannot thank enough the volunteers and donors of the Day of Caring. Your generous gifts of hard-work and caring will benefit our clients and staff for years to come.

Welcoming Light Hosts Greater Nashua Continuum of Care's Employment Connect Job Fair NASHUA - Mark hasn't had steady employment for seven months. He's worked some construction jobs, a few days here and there hanging drywall and such, but not enough to earn him more than what amounts to pocket change; and not enough to give him enough of a paycheck to move out of a downtown homeless shelter. "It's really hard right now to find work," said Mark, who declined to give his full name. At the Greater Nashua Continuum of Care job fair Tuesday morning, Mark at least found jobs he was qualified to apply for. Read More. To see more pictures from the event, visit our Flickr page. Beyond Bronstein: To invest in neighborhood, Nashua officials vow to include resident voices At Welcoming Light's The Institute on September 20th, a 40-person audience mixed with aldermen, nonprofit representatives and other members of the public who met to discuss the future of the 48 families who will be impacted if the public housing complex is razed.

There is a Hero
Amongst Us
Many of us that live here locally in Nashua heard the news of the devastating fire at 22 Beech Street on September 4, 2012.
One of our own dedicated staff members, Glenn Gonyer, lives only a block away from where the fire occurred. He was outside his apartment when he noticed smoke and fire coming from his neighbor's house. Instead of staying home and watching the drama unfold, Glenn decided to run to the house where he saw several mattresses on fire that were leaning against the house. He did what he could to put the fire out but, the fire was too strong for one person to control. He then made up his mind to ensure no one was in the house. Once inside, he helped residents got out safely. If it were not for Glenn's bravery, those residents may not have had a chance to escape the flames.
After the ash settled, Glenn was admitted to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. When he was released from the hospital, many of his neighbors stopped by his home to to make sure he was well and to thank him personally for his courage and strength. Glenn said that his neighbors provided him with a very generous sense of community and he is proud to be part of it. Glenn you are a true hero.

Additionally, through its Access to Recovery program, community members can access increased outpatient and intensive outpatient options. Once treatment is completed, Keystone Hall offers recovery support services to its graduates that help them live healthy, sober lives.
The agency accepts private insurance, Medicaid/Medicare, and those who have no insurance. No one is turned away due to a lack of ability to pay for care. For more information on the programs we offer please, visit our website or call 603-881-4848.
