Hello
Wow! It's never been busier here. I'm starting to worry about where to keep all the stock that's flooding in from all over the place - last week so much arrived that storage has exploded out of the existing storerooms and into outhouses. There's an enormous pile of wicker baskets that arrived yesterday, boxes of turned wood from Hugh Leishman and more stoneware has just arrived from Susan Kemp. Look out for the beautiful sycamore breadboards that Hugh makes for us in Country Living magazine this month.
Someone recently got in touch with me about the pretty cake stands that Nia Lloyd-Jones makes in her studio in North Wales. I immediately realised that they are perfect for Twice, ticking the two boxes of recycling and supporting craftspeople. Nia makes them from vintage plates which she then hand decorates for a really original touch. Available with two or three tiers there are more details below.
Music is a constant in the Twice office and in recent months I've got very excited about Spotify which, if you don't know about it, allows you to listen to anything free over the internet. So, starting this month, I thought I'd list some of my favourite tracks of the moment.
Lots on the website to look at - vintage crocks are back in stock, there are new versions of our Vintage Originals designs (pot rests and sewing rolls spring to mind) and the new catalogue hits your doormats sometime next week (very annoyingly delayed by the postal strike this week).
Happy October!

I'm mad about Nia Lloyds Jones' cake stands ....
|
I'm thrilled to have discovered Nia Lloyd-Jones' pretty cake stands. Working in her studio in North Wales she cleverly creates them from mixed and matched vintage plates and finishes each one with her own hand decoration to create something truly unique. They are available with two or three tiers and can be ordered through the website or by phone now. Obviously, supplies are limited by the plates Nia can source and her time, so hurry to avoid disappointment.
And when you've got your cake stand home why not fill it with your own delicious Honey Cakes from the recipe we've given below.

Range towels back in stock ....
|
|
|
The incredibly popular Range Towels have been out of stock for a while but I've been working hard to get more in for you. It's an interesting reflection of how the business is growing - from making up towels from the odd metre of towelling in the early days (in fact the very first ones were made from actual bath towels!) I now order the towelling from Turkey, where they make the best towelling, especially made and dyed for us. And now the quantities have increased to the point that I have to get the gingham bias binding specially made too - I've just ordered a kilometre of each colour!
There are still a few red towels in stock, but all three colours will be back in within two weeks. If you'd like to reserve a specific colour, just email Twice at info@twiceonline.co.uk
And in the new catalogue you'll see that there are now Roller Towels too.

I wonder if you'd help ....
|
As a small but growing business Twice needs every bit of help it can get to reach a wider audience - and I wondered if you'd help. If you send in the names and addresses of any friends that you think might like a catalogue, I'll enter your name into a draw to win one of these gorgeous Vintage Linen Tote Bags (worth £30.00). You'll be added once for each name and address you send. I'll make the draw at the end of the month and announce the winner in next month's newsletter.

This month's recipe is for the mouth watering Honey Cakes
that look so yummy on Nia's cake stand. It comes from 'Off The Shelf'
by Donna Hay which is a cookery book that I seem to go back to time and
again.
Ingredients 6oz butter, softened 5oz caster sugar 3 tblspns honey 2 eggs 7 1/2 oz plain flour, sifted 1 tsp baking powder 8 fl oz double cream chilled honey
Preheat
your oven to 160C. Put the butter, sugar and honey in a bowl and beat
until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well.
Fold the flour and baking powder into the butter mixture. Spoon the
mixture into 12 greased non-stick muffin tins. Bake in the oven for
20-30 mins until cooked when tested with a skewer (the original recipe
said 15-20 but it wasn't enough). Cool on a wire rack.
Whip the cream until thick and then spread on each cake. Before serving, drizzle with the chilled honey.
Makes about 12 small cakes.
(You will notice from the photos that I didn't have the patience to chill the honey!)
