Next week on January 14th, Mission Central, an outreach ministry of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church will be loading an ocean container full of books, tools, clothing, school desks and school supplies, church supplies, and even a motorcycle to go to Sierra Leone in Western Africa.  Sierra Leone is a highly impoverished nation that is still trying to recover from a civil war that ended years ago.  The shipment is a coordinated effort of many individuals and groups.
  • The materials being shipped were donated by dozens of different people
  • Mission Central received, stored, boxed, manifested, and will load the shipment from our Mechanicsburg warehouse
  • Arms Around Africa, a non-profit organization based in York, PA, made the shipping arrangements and has the network in place in Africa to receive the container
  • First United Methodist Church of Mechanicsburg donated the money, $8,000, to pay for transportation and associated costs.

We would love to have you present that day to witness the event first-hand.  As a friend of mine once said, "that mission work is where the church becomes relevant in today's society."  I would argue that the church is relevant, period, but I certainly understand what he meant.  I hope you will join us.

Mission Central provides Mission Education, Mission Outreach, and Disaster Response services to people in need regardless of faith or church affiliation and typically does so by working through partner social service agencies.  In 2009, Mission Central worked with over 230 different agencies locally, nationally, and around the globe.

Peace and Blessings,
