Roadside Delineation Helps Prevent Run-off the Road (ROR) Accidents
 There are many contributing factors to roadway departure accidents including: driver fatigue, inattentive, careless or distracted drivers and poor visibility.
The majority of run-off the road accidents happen at night. Additionally, 7% of ROR fatalities occur on rural highways and 90% on two lane roads.
In an effort to reduce the number of serious injuries and fatalities that result from ROR crashes, many transportation agencies are installing guardrail to shield motorists from the hazards located along the side of the roadway. They can be used at any roadside, bridges, medians and embankments.
In addition to guardrail, providing enhanced delineation of sharp curves with reflective markings, signing and other high-visibility delineators can contribute to reduced lane-departure crashes. Delineation provides drivers with a clear picture of the sharpness of the curve ahead and causes them to decrease their speed prior to entering the curve. |
