Chef's and the City
A Taste of New York
Seven Chefs, Two Great Causes, One Fantastic Evening

Gary Hawkins

Seven of Jackson's finest chefs join together to present "Chefs and the City: A Taste of New York" at the historic Fairview Inn in Jackson on Friday, November 20th. The second annual event features a five-course meal and the music of Knight Bruce and a "Tavern on the Green" reception that will recreate the look, feel and taste of the Big Apple complete with performance artists, carriage rides, martini and champagne bars and the big band sound of the 21-piece Capital City Stage Band.

The chefs include Gary Hawkins of Sophia's, Luis Bruno of the Hilton Jackson, Jon Lansdale of Crazy Cat Bakers, Nick Apostle of Nick's, Eric Bach of Strawberry Café, Dan Blumenthal of Mangia Bene and Takahiro Higuchi  of Sakura Bana. The five-course meal will include a popular dish from each of the top five restaurants in New York with each chef's own take on the recipe. Wine will be provided by Kats Wine Cellars of Belhaven. "Last year's inaugural event was so successful that we are greatly expanding this year's Chefs and the City," said Peter Sharp, owner and proprietor of the Fairview Inn. "Participants can choose to attend both the Tavern reception and the five-course meal for $125 or attend just the reception for $60. Either way they will have a wonderful time, enjoying incredible food, cocktails and beautiful music while raising money for two great causes."

Chefs and the City is a benefit for the  Simon Sharp Eagle Fund. Proceeds from the event go to the  Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children and the Andrew Jackson Council of the Boy Scouts of America--two causes that meant so much to Simon Sharp, a 15-year-old who courageously fought Leukemia while raising money to build a veteran's memorial, his Eagle Scout project.

During this year's dinner, the Simon Sharp Eagle Fund will recognize two inspirational people who symbolize Simon's courage with the Simon Sharp Humanitarian Award and Eagle Award.

Chefs and the City, hosted by  U.S. 96.3's Scott Steele and Karen Lowe, will also feature "remote broadcasts" from various areas of a beautifully recreated New York and live and silent auctions that include several packaged trips to New York themed destinations.

Eric Wells

Eric Wells

E. Willander Wells, a local designer here in the metro-Jackson area, known to most in Jackson as "Eric Wells" has honed his craft as a designer for the last 20 years.  He received his passion for the fashion industry from his beloved mother Annie Cooper who was noticeably one of the most fashionable women in Jackson who epitomized grace and style.

Eric  specializes in haute' couture evening gowns and cocktail dresses, these one-of-a-kind designs are show-stoppers and are made to fit the style and the body form of each woman who dares to be a trendsetter.  His evening gowns are sleek, formfitting with a whimsical train which gives the effect of a fairytale with a wonderful ending.  His cocktail dresses create movement, with an-oh-so flirty hemline which appropriately stops just above the knees.  In his spare time he loves to watch old movies which show beautiful retro gowns. The 30's, the 40's and the 50's were the years of elegance and sophistication, Eric  says that "my creativity level zones in on this era, but with more of a contemporary flair."

Eric works as a bartender and server at the Fairview,  produce manager and florist at McDades, as well as pursuing his dress designing.

On Saturday, January 9th, 2010 Eric will show his most anticipated designs at the Jackson Convention Complex beginning at 7:30 p.m., with tickets priced at $35.00.  The theme this year is "ICE" A WORK OF ART. Come and support Eric "the fashion designer" as he gives Jackson the best in couture fashions; a wonder stage presentation; top-rated models who have graced the catwalk all over the United States; fabulous food, music and fun.
