Greetings!

AFT's "Spot Light Artists of the Month" features the works of Fiber Artists Gin DeCamp AND Diane McKinnon, whose works focus on felting and weaving, respectively. Gin and Diane are very highly regarded and sought after in their respective fields.

Gin first learned the trade 12 years ago she has been obsessed with learning everything she can about the history and ancient processes of making felt. She love's the wide range of colors and textures and the sensuous feel of felting, as well as its versatility.

It can be
sculptural, gossamer, practical, elegant or whimsical in nature.
It can be layered for watercolor effects, beaded, needle felted, or combined with silk fiber and yarns for interesting effects. Gin has fabricated a wide range of items, including hats, boots, vests, felted soaps, jewelry and rattles. Gin is an award-winning felter.

Diane has been an avid hand weaver for longer that she cares to admit. She studied weaving during college, the result of an enrollment mix up That happy accident led her to continue studying textile, color, and weaving at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She teaches regularly at regional fiber events. Diane specializes in color and texture in her weaving. As the 'keeper' of over 50 looms, she is able to keep many different projects such as rag rugs, shawls, scarves, place mats, and dish towels, to name a few, going at once. Boredom is never a possibility.
