November 2009                                                                Volume 3 issue 11

Greetings!

Mark Oberzil is December's
Featured Artist at A Framer's Touch.

Wednesday, December 2nd
5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.

We have had Mark's incredible jewelry in our gallery for many years.  We finally convinced Mark to let us shine the lime light on him.  Mark's creations are just wonderful to look at, but even better to wear.  I have to admit that I have more than a few of his pieces in my jewelry box, and I wear them often!

Mark was an artist at a very young age.  His designs bear the influence of his grandfather's wood sculptures. He developed his technique from working in his uncle's pattern business.  Mark is a nationally acclaimed master at silver smithing and fabricating.  He has designed and manufactured jewelry for companies such as the Nature Company.

In recent years, Mark has scaled down his mass production, preferring instead to concentrate on smaller editions of his designs.  When you wear an "Oberzil Designs" piece from A Framer's Touch, you will be only one of a lucky few.  For the right customer, Mark can be commissioned for a one-of-a-kind piece.  Talk to Kristen, she will  put in a good word for you.

For the month of December, and only at A Framer's Touch, Mark's personal collection will be on display.  Many one-of-a-kind pieces will be made available for sale.  This is indeed a rare treat.

Fun Times at our Champagne Reception

Thank you to all who attended our Champagne Reception last month.  It was so nice to be able to visit with all our friends.

Thank you also to our artists who generously contributed their artwork as raffle prizes.

We have been in Forest Grove for 7 years now, and we are proud to be a part of this community.

FRAMING COMPETITION

There's a little excitement at A Framer's Touch.  I recently won 1st place at the PPFA (Professional Picture Framing Association),  Cascade Chapter Open Framing Competition and 2nd place in the Print Framing Competition on November 8th , 2009.  My Open piece was also selected by my peers as winner of the Popular Choice Award.

I will now be competing in the International PPFA Framing Competition which will be held in Anaheim California early next year.  Wish me luck as I will be going toe to toe with the most elite of picture framers in the world.

I cannot publish any pictures of the winning pieces until the International Competition is over.  However, the winning pieces
are on display at the gallery.  Please stop by.
My customers are my inspiration

Attention Artists! The Business of Art 101

Last month was indeed a busy one.  Among other things, I taught an introductory class at Sequoia Gallery in Hillsboro, to help artist think of the business aspects of promoting their artwork.  We discussed the presentation, promotion and pricing strategies for selling art.

Attendees were given insight into the world of selling artwork from a gallery owner's prespective.

The class was well received and a Winter Class Schedule will be posted soon.

Jeff Hall Art Show Recap

October's Featured Artist was Jeff Hall.  Jeff's artwork was a hit and generated quite a bit of excitement.  We had a few empty spots on our walls after the show.

Thank you Jeff for sharing your art with us.

***NEW***
New at A Framer's Touch,
"Santa Fe Stoneworks"

Their beautiful hand-crafted handles is what made Santa Fe Stoneworks famous.

All Santa Fe Stoneworks pieces are  painstakingly made by hand with the human touch, never created by machines in large factories.

These knives are made from Damascus Steel. Damascus blades are prized for their beauty, flexibility, and strength. In a very labor-intensive process, high-and low-carbon steels are combined as welded layers. From twelve to 600 pattern-welded layers comprise each blade.

We feature Turquoise from the Southwest, Malachite from the Congo, Azurite form Arizona, Lapis from Afghanistan, Apache Gold from Arizona & Oregon. We accent them with Mother-of-Pearl & Coral from the Philippines and Jet or Black Amber from the Southwest. Functional, beautiful and of the highest quality.

(C1368 "On the Beach" Winner of the Best in Show Award at the Autumn 2009 Exhibition of the Watercolor Society of Oregon)
