MFP Project Highlight:
EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The Employment Program is a vital part of MFP's Transformative Education Program and comprehensive continuum of care.
Our onsite workshops cultivate basic vocational skills such as interview preparation, resume writing, basic computer literacy, job searching and other soft skills. In addition, we offer support services such as transportation and professional clothing assistance, which are often crucial to attaining and sustaining employment. Special guest speakers periodically visit to offer information on a range of fields and answer questions from participants.
The team of employment staff at MFP, including an Employment and Education Specialist, work to give youth skills that are specifically targeted at young adults entering the workforce. Once a young person obtains employment, MFP provides ongoing support to facilitate job retention.
MFP is actively seeking job development partnerships in the community. We are working to find employers who are interested in giving these young people a opportunity at employment, which truly is a critical component of exiting homelessness. If you're interested in partnering with MFP as we invest in and transform the lives of these young people, please contact Cristina at (323) 908-0011 X163 or cramos@myfriendsplace.org.

Summertime Wish List
For many of us, Summertime brings with it the promise of poolside vacations and backyard BBQs, but the sun's rays are often less hospitable to those without the comforts of home. MFP is a safe place of refuge away from the heat and danger of the streets. You can help make the sunny season more comfortable for the young people we serve with in-kind donations of these essentials:

- travel sized sun block/sunscreen
- sunglasses
- hats/baseball caps
- reusable water bottles
- backpacks/duffel bags
- men's warm weather clothing (shorts, t-shirts)
- women's warm weather clothing (tank tops, t-shirts, shorts)
- men and women's shoes (comfortable shoes)
- gift cards for stores or fast food
- bus tokens
- toiletries (deodorant, shampoo, body wash, dental floss)
- calling cards
- pad locks and u-locks for bikes
For donations and gift inquires, please contact Natalie at

Word From the Streets
UNTITLED
Living every moment like it's my last, trying not to let the past haunt me. Oh dear friend,
Why such a distance between this hidden pain?
No more cries, it's time to create!
Be free from all sorrow.
I will live every moment with my deserved happiness, there's no holding back this time.
Hit me with a melody, gimmie that rhyme, life is so good I forget to enjoy this time.
The mistakes I've made, I have no regrets!

Volunteer of the Month
Aaron Saffa and Vitalogy
Aaron Saffa moved to Hollywood knowing that he wanted to give back to the local community. He stated, "when I read a bit more about the amazing work My Friend's Place does, it was an easy decision to become involved."
Aaron generously contributes on a monthly basis, but wanted to become more involved. Recognizing that most events and volunteer opportunities occur during the work week, Aaron was looking for a creative way to get connected, and that's exactly what he did. Aaron plays in a Pearl Jam tribute band, aptly named Vitalogy, and decided to organize a fundraising concert on June 16th at the House of Blues, Hollywood. Vitalogy will be joined by other 90's rock tribute bands and ticket proceeds will support MFP's programs for homeless youth.
Aaron shared "I think it's important to be involved in your community, but more than that, I definitely get something back from my connection to MFP. Many of the young people helped by MFP are truly extraordinary, and have been dealt a tough hand and are going through a difficult time. Whenever I find time to volunteer or help in some way, I come away with a feeling of humility and gratitude toward MFP for providing the chance to help in some small way."
My Friend's Place thanks Aaron and Vitalogy for their incredible generosity and creativity.
We hope you'll come show your support for MFP
and check out some
great 90's rock!
