My Friend's Place
 Newsletter
The mission of My Friend's Place is to assist and inspire homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives.
Greetings!
As My Friend's Place gets ready for the holidays, we are mindful that this time of year can be particularly provocative for young people on the streets without the support of their families.  Read on to discover how you can help us spread awareness and raise support for homeless youth.

We are so thankful for your commitment to the homeless youth of Los Angeles.  Thank you and have a wonderful start to your Holiday Season!

November is California Runaway and Homeless Youth Month
California Runaway and Homeless Youth MonthCoinciding with National Homeless Youth Awareness Month, this month is the first ever California Runaway and Homeless Youth Month, coordinated by the California Coalition for Youth and the California Homeless Youth Project.  The goals of the project include raising awareness for the prevalence and needs of runaway and homeless youth and to educate the public about the solutions and the role they can play in preventing and ending youth homelessness.  Find out how you can help by checking out the official website.

HomeWalk 2010 logoAnother great way to get involved in raising awareness and support for homeless youth is to participate in HomeWalk 2010 on Saturday, November 13th, organized by the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.  My Friend's Place will be there, will you?

October and November Volunteers of the Month
All Saints' Parish Beverly Hills volunteersMy Friend's Place is thrilled to recognize All Saints' Parish of Beverly Hills as our October Volunteers of the Month!  Many of the youth who come to MFP do not have an opportunity to celebrate their birthdays.  So, every third Thursday of the month for the past 10 years, All Saints' has decorated our program space and served pizza, cake, ice cream, and soda.  Youth who have a birthday during the month receive a special card and gift and are sung "Happy Birthday" by everyone in attendance, letting them know they are an important part of our community.  Special thanks to Josef Isidro and Michael Cravotta for their work in the coordinating the events!

Myra working in the clothing closet. We are also pleased to announce Myra Walker as our November Volunteer of the Month!  Myra, affectionately called "the clothing closet lady" by many of the youth, comes in weekly and works tirelessly behind the scenes at MFP, organizing our in kind donations and clothing closet.  With her help, our clothing closet is more efficient and welcoming than ever before!

We warmly thank the members of All Saints' Parish Beverly Hills and Myra for the work they have done and their dedication to the youth of My Friend's Place!
