My Friend's Place
 Newsletter
The mission of My Friend's Place is to assist and inspire homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives.
Greetings!
Summer is here and with it has come an increasing number of youth seeking relief from the hot sun.  Read on in this special Volunteer Spotlight edition of The Boulevard to find out how community members of all ages are pitching in to take on the summer heat and make a difference for homeless youth.

Thank you for being part of our community!  Together, we can truly create inspiration and transformation in the lives of the youth who depend on My Friend's Place every day.

Young Volunteers Raise Funds, Awareness for MFP
At My Friend's Place, we are incredibly lucky to have volunteers of all ages contribute to our work!  Several young philanthropists have recently volunteered their time and energy to make a difference.

Kevin DunnKevin Dunn began volunteering for My Friend's Place at a young age by baking cookies for the youth and spending time helping us organize our clothing closet.  When it came time for Kevin's Bar Mitzvah this spring, he decided to use it as an opportunity to raise support and awareness for MFP.  By collecting donations and gifts, Kevin raised over $500 to support homeless youth!  Serving the community also runs in Kevin's family - father Darryl is on our Board of Directors and mother Claudette is a regular volunteer.

We first met Ea LaLanne, Alejandra Suayde, and Saskia Kivilo when they hand delivered a donation of over $2,000 last month.  The three young women, students at LYCEE International de Los Angeles, had researched MFP online and decided to help our mission by organizing a dance show to raise funds as well as awareness among their peers.  These three remarkable young women have made an enormous impact in the lives of the youth who come to MFP.

Many thanks to our volunteers and supporters of all ages!  Together, we can help homeless youth build self-sufficient lives.

Lemon Lime Agency Hosts Sweet Clothing Drive

Lemon Lime clothing driveThanks to Sabrina Alashi for spearheading an incredible clothing drive at the Lemon Lime Agency last month!  Reaching out to her community of friends and colleagues, she spread the word and collected five carloads of clothing to donate to the youth at My Friend's Place.

We are so happy to have Sabrina, Lemon Lime agents Robin Harrington and Chaim Magnum, and the whole Lemon Lime community as part of the MFP family!

June Volunteer of the Month: Mike Geary
Volunteer of the Month MikeMike has served at MFP as an Acting Workshop instructor for the last two years.  Mike has also enlisted friends to help co-facilitate the workshop, has donated clothes, and has recently begun free yoga classes for the staff.

Mike heard of My Friend's Place through an invitation from Board Member Ivan Tether, who has also been a long-standing volunteer for the Acting Workshop.  Mike's time at MFP has afforded him not only the opportunity to share his gifts and talents for acting and teaching, but also to witness the youth blossom and flourish
.

Many thanks to Mike for making such a difference in the lives of the homeless youth of Los Angeles!
