The mission of My Friend's Place is to assist and inspire homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives.
Greetings!

Heather CarmichaelI hope that 2010 is off to a great start for you, your friends, and family!

Here at My Friend's Place we have much to be grateful for as we start our 23rd year of service to homeless youth in Los Angeles.  Thank you so much for making the holidays at MFP a time of celebration and community for our youth.  After the challenges of the past year, it was amazing to be able to come together at the end of 2009 knowing that we will be here to serve youth in need for years to come.

All of us who work at My Friend's Place are humbled and honored on a daily basis to have the chance to touch the lives of the homeless young people who walk through our doors each day.  We know that it takes more than just us to make a difference.  It takes the dedication of our many volunteers, the generosity of our supporters, and the strong belief that the community has in our mission to assist and inspire homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives.  In short, it takes you.

We are excited for the year ahead and hope that you will continue to be a part of the MFP family for years to come.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Signed,

Heather Carmichael

Ring Out the Old: 2009 Holiday Celebrations
The 2009 holidays were some of the busiest ever for My Friend's Place!  Thanks to the support of dedicated volunteers and supporters, MFP was able to brighten the season for hundreds of youth.

Thanksgiving VolunteersOn November 25, volunteers from the Capital Group Companies prepared a hot meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans and more to celebrate Thanksgiving.  Over 100 youth lined up around the block to receive the delicious food!

I
Holiday Partyn December, staff and volunteers transformed MFP into a winter wonderland for our annual holiday party, distributing hundreds of backpacks filled with essential items and gifts to over 160 young people.  A hot meal with holiday desserts was served, and youth had the chance to take their picture with Santa!  A week later, graduates of MFP's Parenting Program gathered to celebrate and select gifts for their children.  And on Christmas Day, My Friend's Place volunteers and staff served a special morning meal to dozens of young people - with a surprise gift of a visit to see Disney's A Christmas Carol that afternoon!

New Year's BBQIn early January, volunteers led by Armin and Marilyn Szatmary hosted a New Year's Barbecue.  Youth enjoyed fresh hot dogs, hamburgers, and cake as they rang in the new year!

Supporter Spotlight: Crumbs Bake Shop
Crumbs logoTwice a week for the last six months, Crumbs Bake Shop in Larchmont Village has donated boxes of cupcakes and pastries for the youth who visit My Friend's Place.  The tasty treats have quickly become a welcome bright spot in the week for the youth at MFP and are greeted enthusiastically with smiles and cheers.

We are so grateful to our many community partners who enhance the lives of homeless youth.  Thank you, Crumbs, for your ongoing commitment to the youth of MFP!
