Cirque du Soleil's KOOZA a Success!
|
On October 23rd, My Friend's Place supporters helped raise over $50,000 for homeless youth services by attending a special showing of Cirque du Soleil's KOOZA! Almost 300 event goers thrilled to the magic of Cirque's best acrobats, jugglers, and clowns performing astounding feats of daring, agility, and skill.
VIP guests arrived an hour before the show for a red carpet reception with hosted cocktails, hors d'ouvres, and music by DJ IG. Guests were also entertained by stilt-walking Cirque performers, paving the way for a special message from MFP's Heather Carmichael and Los Angeles Youth Network's Matt Kamin. Guests also signed a poster with messages of hope and encouragement for the homeless youth of Hollywood.
Tha nk you to our sponsors (see sidebar), staff, volunteers, ticket-buyers, and supporters for helping to make the event a success! Special thanks as well to LAYN for co-hosting the VIP reception, Cirque du Soleil for their generous donations of tickets and raffle prizes, and Cirque du Monde instructors for their outstanding commitment to the homeless youth of Hollywood!

Throw a Holiday Party for MFP!
|
One of our supporters called last week to ask if it would ok
for her to dedicate her holiday party to My Friend's Place. We loved the idea so much that we wanted to
let you know about it!
Here are a few ideas about how you can add MFP cheer to your
party: Ask your holiday guests to bring packages of new socks and new underwear for homeless youth. Collect
monetary donations instead of white elephant gifts. Put our MFP
brochures or other information out for your guests. The holidays can be a great time to take a
moment to be grateful for all that we have and support some of the most
vulnerable members of our community.
To find out more about how you can help, contact Michael Kass at 323-908-0011 x 110 or mkass@myfriendsplace.org. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

A Little Red Wagon Rolls by My Friend's Place
|
On November 3rd, 6th grader Zach
Bonner of the Little Red Wagon Foundation visited My Friend's Place to find out more about our programs. Since 2004,
Zach, with the support of his mother and other volunteers, has been working to
support homeless and runaway youth across the country. In 2010, Zach will walk from Coast to Coast
to raise awareness about youth homelessness in the United States.
We were excited to meet Zach and to meet a new potential
partner in the fight against homelessness.
