Youth on the Move
|
Imagine being a youth on the streets. You've been coming to My Friend's Place for a month and finally got a job! Now you have a new challenge: getting there.
Transportation to interviews, schools, housing sites and jobs presents a major challenge to many youth. We supply bus tokens to as many youth as possible - over 1,000 tokens per month - but demand far outstrips our supply.
You can help by purchasing tokens and donating them to the youth at My Friend's Place. Tokens are available in packets of 10 ($12) at most Ralph's and Pavilions stores as well as at Metro transit centers. We hope you'll join us in keeping youth on the move towards greater stability!

Welcome to our new interns!
|
My Friend's Place welcomes Gerard Holmes and Kelsey Brennan, our new full-time Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) interns! Gerard will spend the next year working with our Transformative Education and Special Events team, while Kelsey will be working hard with the Direct Service team maintaining our Safe Haven. This marks the sixth year My Friend's Place and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps have partnered together to serve the homeless youth of Hollywood. We also welcome new part-time interns Erin Krummis (USC) and Ryan Grady (CSUN) to our Case Management and Health Education teams. We are so excited to have Gerard, Kelsey, Erin, and Ryan as a part of our team. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for the homeless youth of Hollywood! |
Congratulations to Frank Babich on 10 years of service!
|
My Friend's Place is thrilled to congratulate Frank Babich on 10 years of service to the homeless youth of Hollywood! Frank first joined MFP in 1999 as a part-time Dayroom Assistant and quickly became an integral part of the staff. Now as our Direct Services Manager, Frank operates MFP's Safe Haven program through which youth access basic needs such as food, clothing, and showers, as well as a safe place to spend time off the streets.
As the need for our services continues to grow, the youth who visit My Friend's Place will continue to be in good hands thanks to Frank's sense of humor and compassionate spirit. Here's to another ten years, Frank!

Back to School a Success!
|
Thanks to everyone who made our Back to School donation drive last month was a huge success! Because of you, MFP collected enough backpacks, folders, notebooks, and other school supplies for over 100 youth to alleviate the cost of receiving their education.
From all the staff and youth at My Friend's Place, thank you!

Facebook 101
|
One of our Facebook members recently raised $369 just by asking his friends to donate to MFP in honor of his birthay. Here's how you can help:
1. Join our Cause. 2. Become a fan. 3. Invite your friends and family to join too!
Together we can build our community of supporters to help homeless youth!
