National Child Awareness Month Ambassadors Come to DC
|
|
The National Child Awareness Month Youth Ambassadors - one from each state - gathered in our nation's Capital this week to celebrate September's National Child Awareness Month and begin planning year-long service projects. To help them on their way, YSA and Festival of Children Foundation are providing all 51 Youth Ambassadors with funding, training and ongoing support. At a reception in their honor on Capitol Hill, we introduced many of the Youth Ambassadors to their elected officials in the House and Senate - leaders who, just like the Youth Ambassadors - believe in service to others. See pictures of the reception: http://on.fb.me/PM7vDw

Everyday Young Heroes
|
Cassandra Sterling
Woodbury, MN
YSA recognizes 23-year-old Cassandra Sterling of Woodbury, Minnesota, as an Everyday Young Hero for her commitment to volunteering at the Minnesota Children's Museum, which includes mentoring other volunteers while engaging children and families with hands-on museum exhibits.
After attending the Minnesota Children's Museum as a child, the spark of learning and imagination continue to remain dear to Cassie. Transitioning from a museum visitor to a museum volunteer or "Playologist", Cassie does countless projects while acting as a mentor to fellow volunteers. She assists with hands-on activities, supports the musem staff with tours and groups, and engages children and their parents in meaningful discussions that lead to learning. Cassie's contributions also helped create a strong sense of unity and inclusion among museum volunteers. Other volunteers feel comfortable asking Cassie questions, looking to her for leadership and direction in difficult situations. When there is little oversight on the floor, Cassie is the one that volunteers can turn to for help; she is consistently dependable. As the volunteer program becomes stronger and more unified, the Museum is better able to support the needs of the community. For her dedication to mentoring and using her passion for youth engagement, we honor Cassie as an Everyday Young Hero. To nominate a young person who has improved their community through service to be recognized as an Everyday Young Hero, please visit www.ysa.org/awards/hero. |

Michael Jackson - "Heal the World"
"And if you really try You'll find there's no need to cry In this place you'll feel There's no hurt or sorrow. There are ways to get there If you care enough for the living Make a little space, make a better place.
Heal the world Make it a better place For you and for me and the entire human race There are people dying If you care enough for the living Make a better place for You and for me."
