 | | About the 9/11 Day Movement |
Join us in observing 9/11 as a day of good deeds, when we pay tribute together by promoting worldwide unity, compassion and peace. Simply add your name as a supporter at 911day.org. Then come up with a good deed that you'll do on 9/11 this year. Any act of kindness or compassion counts. Like helping a friend or relative, repairing an important relationship, purchasing school supplies for your child's classroom, giving something away, making a donation to support a cause, or volunteering locally. It's a wonderful way to remember.
As we approach the 11th anniv ersary of 9/11, we are challenged to explain the significance of the event to America's young people - many of whom have no first-hand memory of the occasion. YSA offers experience in engaging youth by suggesting ten lessons learned and related ideas for service-learning projects. Download "We Serve to Remember: 10 Lessons for Engaging Youth."
Educators, consider launching a fall Semester of Service on 9/11. Download YSA's Semester of Service Strategy Guide.

David Chen
Andover, MA
YSA recognizes 21-year-old David Chen from Andover, MA, as one of our Everyday Young Heroes. David implements his passion for film by delving into the lives of those in his community who made lifestyle changes, and inspiring those who watch.
David provides a unique perspective through his work by capturing inspirational journeys. He films, directs, edits, and develops each story that would go untold without his work. David scours the local area for seemingly ordinary citizens who have incredible stories of beating the odds to establish a meaningful life. As he captures the lives of these people, David connects the audience to their lives, thus creating a greater sense of community beyond Andover, MA. Additionally, David started an organization called Inspiration Individuals to bring further insight to the transformation of individuals and their community. We honor David Chen as an Everyday Young Hero for his effort to cast a light on the untold inspirational stories in his community. John Mellencamp - "Peaceful World"
"Everything is cool as can be In a peaceful world
Racism lives in the U.S. today Better get hip to what Martin Luther King had to say I don't want my kids being brought up this way Hatred to each other is not okay Well I'm not a preacher just a singer son But I can see more work to be done It's what you do and not what you say If you're not part of the future then get out of the way."
