The following grant and award opportunities may interest you.  

YSA is currently accepting applications for three of our signature YSA Grants programs:

  • We've extended the deadline for our Sodexo Youth Grants through this weekend, to give everyone a few extra days to submit an application for service projects addressing childhood hunger in your communities. These applications are due by midnight this Sunday, September 18. 
  • We're still accepting applications for our UnitedHealth HEROES Service-Learning Grants, supporting Semester of Service projects addressing childhood obesity. These applications are due by midnight on October 17.
  • We just started accepting applications for this year's State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants, supporting Semester of Service projects in K-12 public schools. Applications are due by midnight on November 9.

Sodexo Youth Grants

Deadline Extended: September 18

YSA will award 25 Sodexo Youth Grants of $500 each to support youth-led service projects in the United States that address the issue of childhood hunger during National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (November 13-20, 2011).  We're looking for projects that engage your peers, friends, families, neighbors, Sodexo employees, and other community members in creative, youth-inspired solutions to ending childhood hunger in your community. UnitedHealth HEROES Grants

Deadline: October 17

The UnitedHealth HEROES program is a service-learning, health literacy initiative that awards grants to help youth, ages 5-25, create and implement local, hands-on programs to fight childhood obesity. The grants encourage semester-long projects that launch on MLK Day of Service  and culminate on Global Youth Service Day. Schools, service-learning coordinators, non-profits, and students in the health professions located in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are eligible to apply for the $500 - $1,000 grants. State Farm™ Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants

Deadline: November 9

State Farm™ is proud to team up with YSA to offer grants of up to $1,000 for service-learning projects in K-12 public schools in all fifty US states and the District of Columbia, and in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick. The State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants encourage semester-long projects (a Semester of Service) that launch on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (January 16, 2012) and culminate on Global Youth Service Day (April 20-22, 2012). Up to 125 grants will be awarded; at least 10-15 grants will support projects addressing teen driver safety issues. Learn more at www.YSA.org/goodneighbor   

Everyday Young Hero Awards

Deadline: Ongoing

Awarded weekly to a young person from around the world who exemplifies an extraordinary commitment to service, the Everyday Young Hero Award program is open to youth ages 5-25. Nominations must come from a parent, teacher or other adult mentor. Winners are announced in the NSB, featured on YSA's website and showcased within its social media outlets. Everyday Young Heroes also receive a certificate, award and press release.  Nominate a young person you know to be recognized as an Everyday Young Hero at www.YSA.org/awards/hero

Light Up A Landmark for Lights On Afterschool Contest

Deadline: September 23

Thanks to longtime afterschool champion jcpenney, afterschool programs have another reason to get revved up for Lights On Afterschool this October 20: Tell us what you can light up for your Lights On Afterschool celebration and you may win up to $5,000! Start by registering for Lights On Afterschool and using the Event Planning Kit Eleven event winners will be selected nationwide: one Megawatt award winner: $5,000 and ten Spotlight award winners: $1,000. http://bit.ly/ouOxGF  

Alec Dickson Servant Leader Award

Deadline: September 23

The Alec Dickson Servant Leader Award given by the National Youth Leadership Council, recognizes an individual whose life has had a distinctive impact on service-learning. The recipient of the award personifies leadership, courage, creativity, and compassion - values Dickson felt characterized people he most respected.  The award will be presented at the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minn., April 11-14, 2012. The winner will receive travel, lodging, and registration to attend the conference. http://bit.ly/n8Mbzw  

 

Campus Progress Grants

Deadline: September 29

If you are working toward real change in your community and growing the social justice movement, Campus Progress wants to help! Campus Progress provides campaign support and grants of up to $1,500 to young people working on strategic organizing and advocacy campaigns. Organizing Grants provide up to $1,500 a year to help with websites, flyers or whatever else you might need to make your campaign a success. Progressive Partnerships provides n experienced Campus Progress organizer to work with you to develop your campaign plan, offer guidance and training and help connect you to other activists in your community.  Learn more: http://bit.ly/pnl153   

The Global Green USA's Green School Makeover Competition

Deadline: September 30

Would you like to give your school a 'Green School makeover'? If so, Global Green USA wants to hear about it! To enter 'The Global Green USA's Green School Makeover Competition', work on an essay with a teacher, a parent, or your school's PTA. The winner of the contest will win the grand prize, a $65,000 'Global Green USA Green Makeover' for their school. Global Green USA will also award four finalists $2,500 to be used on green projects within their school. http://bit.ly/mxlHiY     

 

E-Waste Drive Campaign Scholarship

Deadline: October 1

Do Something is partnering up with Best Buy and ENERGY STAR to run an E-Waste Drive campaign. Collect e-waste, deliver it to your local Best Buy store, and fill out a report back form.  DoSomething.org will be giving out $10,000 to the winning team to be used as an educational scholarship or project grant. Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grants

Deadline: October 14 or 1,500 applications

The Toolbox for Education Grant Program provides grants of $2,000 to $5,000 to public K-12 schools and school parent-teacher groups associated with public schools throughout the U.S. that develop projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit. Preference is given to funding requests that have a permanent impact such as facility enhancement (both indoor and outdoor) and landscaping/clean up projects. The deadline is October 14; however, if 1,500 applications are received before the deadline, the application process will close. http://bit.ly/orX4N1  

 

Business for Good Competition

Deadline: October 15

Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business is sponsoring The Third Annual Business for Good: Sponsored by Northern Trust, a social enterprise business plan competition. The goal is to facilitate creativity, innovation, and collaboration among social entrepreneurs, increase the visibility of social entrepreneurship, and encourage college students to consider social entrepreneurship as they move into the working world. All participants have the opportunity to be mentored during the application process; the winner receives a range of prizes, including a $1,000 grant, exposure to corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, students, and more at the Intercollegiate Business Convention and through HUWIB outlets. http://bit.ly/rqy59N   

KaBOOM! Let's Play Spruce Grants

Deadlines: October 15, November 15

With support from Dr Pepper Snapple Group, KaBOOM! will be awarding grants of $750 each to communities this year who wish to make their playgrounds cleaner, safer and more inviting. Communities must demonstrate that they have maintained their playspace and they have led an improvement project in the last 60 days. Communities that demonstrate this will receive a $750 gift card to further enhance or improve their playspace. http://bit.ly/qNmqCs      

 

NYLC Youth Leadership for Service-Learning Excellence Award

Deadline: October 21

This award recognizes K-12 service-learning programs and projects that demonstrate outstanding youth leadership. The award focuses on projects that uniquely demonstrate youth leadership for service-learning excellence - incorporating key elements of high-quality service-learning and having a sustainable impact on the participants and the broader community. One winner will be selected to receive this award at the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, MN., April 11-14, 2012. The winner will receive $1,000 to support the program, along with travel, lodging, and registration for the conference for two youth participants and one adult leader. http://bit.ly/n9fvNY  

NYLC Service-Learning Practitioner Leadership Award

Deadline: October 21

This award recognizes practitioners who have equipped young people to lead and serve, both through their direct service-learning instruction with youth and by nurturing other practitioners to expand their service-learning skills and knowledge. Each year, this award is presented to a teacher who has created a living legacy through service-learning practice. One winner will be selected. This award will be presented at the National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minn., April 11-14, 2012. The selected practitioner will receive $1,000 to maintain and develop service-learning programs in his or her organization or school, along with travel, lodging, and registration for the conference.  http://bit.ly/p5w9cX  

 

Home Depot Community Impact Grants Program

Deadline: October 31

Proposals for the following community improvement activities will be considered: repairs, refurbishments, and modifications to low-income and/or transitional housing or community facilities, weatherizing or increasing energy efficiency of low-income and/or transitional housing or community facilities; planting trees or community gardens and/or landscaping community facilities; and development of community parks or green spaces. Grants of up to $5,000 are made in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services. http://bit.ly/eIis5T   

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Deadline: November 1

If you've made a difference through volunteering over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C. next May by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award! Even more importantly, you could win recognition that might inspire other young people to follow your example. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial and NASSP, have honored nearly 100,000 middle and high school students at the local, state, and national level over the past 16 years solely for their volunteer work. http://bit.ly/pb4Fbb    

 

Project Ignition Grants

Deadline: November 15

The National Youth Leadership CouncilŪ and State FarmŪ are pleased to announce the availability of $2,000 Project Ignition grants for public high schools to support their students in addressing teen driver safety through service-learning. Public high schools in the United States and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick are invited to apply for the 2011-2012 grants. 25 schools will be chosen to receive $2,000 grants to implement their campaigns from January to April of this school year. Ten of these schools will be selected to receive additional support.  http://bit.ly/pKcD1c
