Everyday Young Heroes

Audrey Hall
Salt Lake City, UT
YSA recognizes seven year old Audrey Hall from Salt Lake City, Utah, as an Everyday Young Hero for her desire to do good and support the Red Cross relief response to the Midwest tornadoes. After seeing photos and hearing news stories, Audrey recognized that there were many people that needed help after the tragic series of storms and tornadoes that ripped through the Southern States this spring. To do her part, Audrey decided to sell cookies and raise money to send to the Red Cross to help those in need in the affected states. Audrey, her sister Scarlett, and her friend Helen helped bake cookies and then took them around the neighborhood asking for donations in exchange for a bag of cookies. The girls took an atlas with them along with the morning's paper to show everyone where the money was going and why. At the end of the day, the girls raised $57 -- no small feat for a couple of young elementary kids. While this activity didn't raise a significant amount of money. But for 3 young girls, it was such a positive and empowering experience. And for the people in the Southern States, every dollar helps right now. For her contribution to the relief effort, we honor Audrey as an Everyday Young Hero. To nominate a young person who has improved their community through service to be recognized as an Everyday Young Hero, please visit www.ysa.org/awards/hero. |
