Around the Corner - While we prepare to drive around the corner of our neighborhood to represent Christ by helping to clean and care for one part of our neighborhood this Sunday, there are a few other things to remember that are around the corner this fall. Here they are:
1) September 8 is the first Wednesday we're back in full swing with choirs, classes, committees and kitchen confections served at 5:30p.m. by Tim Devine and Company. Tim is entering his fourth year leading the way as our Food Ministry person. If you see Tim you might give him a hug, tell him thank you or even volunteer to serve a Wednesday Night meal.
2) Passing on the light of Christ; Preparations will be beginning for our Mid-Morning worship which will begin the first Sunday of Advent, November 28. Some important things to remember about this opportunity which is around the corner:
* It is a worship service in the traditional style of worship which we already engage in each Sunday
* It is an opportunity to make more room for folks who are already joining the PV family by transferring from other churches or confession of faith and baptism
* It is an opportunity for this congregation to commit itself to the practice of radical hospitality by extending invitations to friends, relatives, associates or neighbors who might have a need to plug in with Jesus Christ in their life! We are emphasizing reaching others for Christ!!
* We will hold a "Preview Sunday" on October 31 to practice worshipping three times a month before we begin it in earnest
* It is healthy to grow and give birth to new Christians as a congregation. Even at the age of 60 as a congregation!!
3) Vintage People: Life's true deserts - Starting Monday morning you will see information on the web site and around the church about an opportunity to gather Friday, September 17 to hear about our United Methodist Retirement communities. It is a great opportunity to get excited about important missions our Annual Conference has created and continues to support.
4) Taize Worship Experiences and Five to the Fifth Power Opportunities: Whenever we have a fifth Wednesday we will provide a Taize worship experience. Also, just as we are this fifth Sunday, we will have "Five to the Fifth Power"; a time for our church to be in risk taking mission within our community.
5) A family reunion every Sunday for fellowship, learning and worship with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
These opportunities and more are just around the corner. Check out our website at
www.pvumc.com for the many ways you can plug in and reboot your life!
Remember to dress casually this Sunday for "Five to the Fifth." We will take time to grab a quick bite to eat after 10:45 worship (bring a sack lunch or go grab something to bring back to the church) and we will get to work changing the world at 1p.m.
