Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church

24 HOURS

February 14, 2010
Greetings!

Transfiguration Sunday - A common theme for Transfiguration Sunday, which is this Sunday, is the idea that we all have to leave our mountain top experiences of faith and go down into the valley to serve.  It is Jesus who was transfigured and blessed by God on the mountain top thus allowing him to go down into the world for the rest of the days of his journey and ministry.  We are invited to follow Jesus into the coming season of Lent in this way.

RETHINK CHURCH - All of us are invited to have open hearts which compel us to move off the mountain top and into the world of service.  This Sunday we are completing our three weeks together of rethinking church.  Five groups have met the last three Tuesday evenings focusing in the areas of radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and extravagant generosity.  I appreciate our five facilitators fo these groups:  Sara Campbell, Natalie Wilson, Sara Turvey, Patty Beck and Val Gleason for taking the time to lead 50 or so folks through this process of deeper learning and cultivating vision for PV beyond the debt.  Church Council will have the opportunity to move forward with the visions brought before them on February 21.  I invite you to continue your prayers for this time of rethinking PVUMC.

My prayer and my belief is that the visions that are being cultivated right now are the reasons that each of us will be compelled to connect our hearts more deeply with Christ to serve and follow Him in the years to come.

ASH WEDNESDAY - Remember Ash Wednesday services will be this Wednesday at noon and 6p.m.  We will have traditional services including the imposition of ashes and the service of Holy Communion.

Lent 2010

24 HOURS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD - You have the opportunity to be part of a deeper study to strengthen your faith by participating in a special Sunday school class in Fellowship Hall beginning February 28th.  Class begins at 9:30 and ends at 10:30.  This study will take us through the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.  These hours are central and crucial to the meaning and importance of Jesus' life and ministry.  You won't want to miss being part of this study as we join with some 2,000 other churches around the country who are participating in this study through Lent 2010.

Worship and Sermons begin February 21
Sunday school class begins February 28 at 9:30 a.m.

Grace and Peace to you all,
