"Comfort, O Comfort my people, says your God"

Isaiah 40:1

24 HOURS

January 31, 2010
Greetings!

While winter sets its course through our lives again we are reminded of the necessity of heat and protection from the natural elements of life.  We are reminded that the dusty path of life often times is full of potholes, mud puddles and even drifts of snow.  It is the presence of brothers and sisters in Christ who happen to be on the journey with us that help us when we step unexpectedly in an unseen hole, slip on something we haven't seen or hold our hand when we walk through an unknown depth of snowy pain and anxiety.  We are promised, of course, that God will always be with us and will never forsake us.  It helps to have those persons with us as we withstand the natural ebb and flow of seasons in our lives.

All of us are impacted by the loss of friends and loved ones and even the sudden news of changing circumstances in their lives.  But, it is the love of God that continues to be with us and call out to us many generations later through the prophet Isaiah.  As he speaks to the Hebrew people whose lives were disrupted and destroyed for generations by an invading empire they were comforted by the words of the prophet reminding them that wherever they were throughout the land, their God was with them.  Wherever you are today, throughout the landscape of life, God simply says, "Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God."  Take time to reflect on God's love for you today.  And wherever you and those who mean the most to you are, share that love with them.  God is with you and loves you today.

Grace and Peace to you all,
Nathan D. Stanton

MEALS FOR HAITI

Numana is again providing the opportunity for people to join together to package meals for the Haitians.  There continues to be a desperate need for food and the goal is to package 1,000,000 meals the week-end of February 5.  Packaging will take place at the WSU Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th North and Oliver.  Individuals can help on Feb. 5 (Friday) and 6 (Saturday) from 8am to 8pm. And Sunday, 1pm to 8pm.  PVUMC will be hosting a time to go on Saturday, Feb. 6.  We will meet at the church for pizza and pop at noon and head for the Complex around 12:45pm.  Childcare will be provided although there were many children (around six years and up) helping with the packaging last week-end (they provide stepping stools).  We will also have the van to transport people.  For your planning purposes, know that we will be  waiting in line for approximately 45 minutes (which speaks well of the Wichita people!) and work for an hour.  If you have any questions, email Kathy Wilson at (katy49did@ cox.net) or call 831-9831.

 Souper Bowl of Caring
Sunday, February 7th

Since the Souper Bowl of Caring began in 1990 with one youth group, the youth of America have raised more than $60 Million for food banks, soup kitchens and other charities across the country. Now it's your turn to fight hunger in the event that is transforming Super Bowl Weekend into the nation'slargest youth-led weekend of giving and serving.  How can you help?  We are asking that you drop $1, $5, or $10 in the soup pot as you leave services on this day.  All proceeds go to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Haiti Emergency relief efforts.

Super Bowl PARTY!!!

Come root for your favorite team to victory.  It will be the Colts vs. Saints in this game. We will meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. and be ready for the game on the big screen.  Everyone bring a favorite snack and we will enjoy the game and fellowship.
