Extravagant Generosity Opportunities  November 2009
Envision Faith

Dear Pleasant Valley Friends and Family,

We are looking toward 2010 this weekend.  While we still have much of 2009 to enjoy we are focusing on the future for this one day.

As we wrap up the initial phase of the "5 Practices of Fruitful Congregations," study we have the opportunity to have faith in a God who has given us everything.  The last of the five practices you need to consider for 2010 is Extravagant Generosity.  There are a couple of ways to do this at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church:

Finance Committee
- Committee member
- Yearly Commitment to undewrite the ministry of the church

Igniting Leaders for a New Century
PVUMC's campaign to reduce the current debt on the building and to emphasize the development of the strengths of the church with a special focus on spiritual leadership.

This Sunday you will have the opportunity to commit your life to Jesus Christ through the practice of Extravagant Generosity and the other four practices.

Extravagant Generosity is a faithful response to God who gave us the perfect and excellent gift of Jesus Christ to teach us, save us and empower us as disciples.  It is also a response of faith to a God who has given us all that we need to live.

Extravagant Generosity is considering how much God has given us and working toward the biblical principal of the tithe which is giving ten percent of what we make.  While we all can't do that immediately it is our challenge as people of faith to consider what we offer to God.  I want to invite you to challenge yourself to take a one step challenge.  Increase what you give by a percentage point if you want or challenge yourself with whatever step you need to take to challenge yourself.

Working toward this helps us understand the abundance we actually have in living off of the 90% of all that is given to us.  In this practice is the excellence of a life that gives thanks for the transformation  we see in our lives and in the lives of others as we offer ourselves through each of the five practices.

I give thanks for each of you who make up the congregation of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.  We are a quality, loving community who seeks to be faithful to God in all that we do.  I look forward to offering God our very best with you this Sunday as we look to a great future next year!

Remember to join the whole church in gathering to celebrate the end of the study and our commitments together after church with a covered dish dinner.

SPECIAL VETERAN'S DAY EVENTS
WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 11 AND SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14

Please join us on Veteran's Day, November 11, for a very special All-American Wednesday Night Meal. We will present a short preview of the video "Pleasant Valley Memories of World War II" before and after the meal. We hope you can come and help us celebrate all of our veterans on this special evening.

On Saturday, November 14, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, we will have a full showing of each of the interviews conducted of our World War II veterans. Gene Hall, Wayne Sidebottom, Linc and Marge Siler, Dwight and Nadine Tillotson, and Sheldon and Corinne Way share their experiences growing up during the early part of the last century and during World War II. See why, for many, this is our "greatest generation" and how their lives made possible the freedoms we enjoy today.
