Dirt is flying in The River District! After many years of planning, the face of The River District is changing. Demolition of the old cannery at the Township Nine site is underway, the new Lottery Headquarters is under construction and North 7th Street is becoming the new RT Green Line.
Take a look at what took place in 2009 in The River District: |

Township Nine Groundbreaking |
| |
 |
Mayor Kevin Johnson joined Township Nine partners Scott Syphax, Steve Goodwin and Ron Mellon in a memorable groundbreaking last June to mark the start of demolition on the 65-acre site. Positioned along the American River, Township Nine begins a new era of development in The River District blending a distinct variety of housing, office and urban retail. Township Nine will serve as the first stop on the extension of Regional Transit's Green Line.
$30 million in State of California Proposition 1C Bond funds will support the development of over 2,500 housing units, 840,000 square feet of office space and 145,000 square feet of urban retail in Township Nine.
