Mayor Kevin Johnson joined Township Nine partners Scott Syphax, Steve Goodwin and Ron Mellon in Thursday night's memorable groundbreaking to mark the start of demolition on the 65-acre site. Positioned along the American River, Township Nine begins a new era of development in The River District blending a distinct variety of housing, office and urban retail. Four major projects were celebrated as catalysts that will bring development, jobs, public transit and cultural amenities to The River District. New development will pave the way for the District's evolution from a primarily light-industrial commercial district to a distinctive, mixed-use neighborhood that will connect Sacramento to its rivers. In addition to the Township Nine Groundbreaking, other major events include:
A welcome to California Highway Patrol and their new Headquarters, a 285,000 square foot campus located in Continental Plaza, bringing over 950 new employees to the District;
Sacramento Regional Transit's Green Line, scheduled to break ground this fall on the extension from the Sacramento Valley Station to Township Nine, will welcome passengers by the end of 2010;
Powerhouse Science Center is progressing with plans to convert the former Jibboom Street Power Station into a dynamic center for science and technology. |
