Therapy Tips:

Are you wondering why you wake up to water condensation in your CPAP mask? The problem is that the vapor from the humidifier cools as it travels down the tubing, turning back into water. There are a few things you can try to alleviate this problem:

Decrease the humidifier heater setting or raise your room temperature.
Add a cover to your tubing to insulate it from the cold. There are a variety of tubing covers available such as fleece Snugglehose and a jacket-like cover with a zipper made by ResMed and a few other brands.
Invest in a CPAP unit that offers heated tubing as an option. Fisher & Paykel's Icon series and ResMed's S9 series have this option available. Since the tubing is heated, the vapor traveling down remains in vapor form, providing you with much more comfortable and effective humidification.

Women with OSA Have Higher Risk of Cardiovascular Death

The journal Sleep Review reports that new research has shown that treatment with CPAP in women with severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea reduces their rate of mortality related to cardiovascular disease.

Too Little Sleep Increases Risk Factors for Heart Disease

According to an article published by WebMD, studies have shown that short sleepers increase their risk factors for developing coronary heart disease (CHD) by 48%. In addition, stroke risk is increased by 15%.

But don't think that those of you who sleep 9 hours or more per night are in the clear. Long sleepers also increase their risk factors for CHD and stroke by 38% and 65% respectively.

So what is considered short sleep time? Less than 6 hours of sleep per night, as defined by researchers conducting the studies.
